I'm quite impressed that the new look has been written off already based on one sketchy paragraph and no pictures. That's something even by TV Forum's standard.

Sky Networks has seen it though. And he's not impressed ...

I've seen it too, but as I value my job I won't be saying a word till it's public.

This seems like an incredibly tight-lipped thing. It's hardly the iPhone 5, but I can see the reasons why it's been done like this.

Presumably it's in part to allow for the best PR spin doctors in the business to work on dressing up the pres with media speak and jargon to try and explain its faults away? Wink

Looking forward to the reveal, hope it's soon.

Was posted over on Digital Spy - not sure of the original source.

This is quite accurate. While the current branding is not without it's problems, all I can say is wait until you see the new stuff. It's pretty horrendous imo.

Shocked

Yikes! I was pretty optimistic until I read your post Sky. Seems like they're going to balls it up yet again image-wise, cohesive or not. I do understand you can't give too much away, but I'm assuming that ITV News - to name but one aspect of the rebrand - will possibly look worse than it does now? (If that's at all possible?!)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Unfortunately I can't say too much about it, but I understand it is being revealed to advertisers and/or investors in November, so would imagine the public reveal is around then as well, with an on-air date of Jan 14 (not sure if that tallies with what others are hearing)?

I have to say I don't see the new branding working well for ITV plc or the re-named ITV (channel). It looks a bit comical, even child-like in my opinion, and dread to think what the likes of Broadcast, Creative Review and Marketing Week will make of it (although I realise that isn't necessarily the intended audience).

But my biggest concern is for news and current affairs programming. The point was made several times at Monday's briefings that the logo doesn't sit well with serious programming like ITV News or Exposure (if you thought ITV News had problems being taken seriously now, just wait for the rebrand).

This is just my take on it though. I'd love a newspaper or magazine like The Guardian or Creative Review to ask somebody like Martin Lambie-Nairn to give his appraisal of it from an expert's point of view. And I can't wait to hear what people here think about it.

SN.

Did you only see it on paper or were you given examples of how it would look on screen as well? Hopefully this is one of those cases where it looks much better on TV than it does in print (Channel 5).

Child-like eh? I guess it'll suit CITV well then.

Maybe its child-like in the sense that it's a bit modern? ITV's target audience is probably those of a younger age group now anyway.

I'm hoping/thinking along the lines of Belgium's VTM. This looks quite modern and child-like but works for a major commercial broadcaster

Since when?

As a PSB with a general remit, their target audience should be most of the population (of England & Wales).

In view of the comments made by those exposed to ITVplc's lastest marketing balls-up, we have something like this to look forward to . . . Rolling Eyes

Allow me to draft the marketing blurb:

"The new, unique image for ITV demonstrates how well the channel will respond in future to our core stakeholder audience of loyal viewers. It's a tribute to both what we make, and also the response from those enjoying our valued productions: which are also appreciated worldwide.

"Furthermore, I think you'll agree that the new logo, developed after extensive consultation with focus groups and other media bodies, represents our commitment to public service broadcasting and our requirement to react to the needs of our audience, who remain our single most important priority.

"Our new logo is fresh, dynamic and 'special' because it represents what we are now: a solid cohesive organisation making the best programmes for the best audience - the UK, and also selling to the world!

I show you now: "ohhh ......" Shocked

You can't judge the news package based solely on the logo.

Sorry, but not sure I agree.

Imagine having a decent set of opening titles for a serious news programme, but then having to incorporate a logo like Cbeebies into it? I'm not saying the new logo is anything like that, but you get my drift? I think most people would agree that wouldn't work. The logo is pretty integral when it comes to branding of television news imo.

Imagine the BBC logo on jaggered illuminous astons, or with a pop song theme tune. The logo is small element of the overall package.
It would be fair to wait to see how they use the logo in the news package before commenting I think.
