When ITv annouced, over a year ago, that Coronation street was moving back to a Wednesday, they also announced that the Thursday slot, it was vacating, would be used to show new British sit-coms. In that time Sky has built up a fantastic portfolio of sitcoms, but as of yet ITV have to screen any of theirs, if they have any. Do they have any planned, or filmed and when are they expected to show them?

Since Coronation street has moved we have had fillers and now 40 years of Emmerdale!!!

Worth noting that as of next week ITV4 will be showing Cheers on weeknights, good acqusition but I can't help but think it'd suit ITV3 more.

Aren't CBS Drama showing it as well?

Apparently they do, whether it'll still be on CBS Drama from next week I don't know.

Scrubs was on E4 and Paramount (or Sky) for a while - it happens from time to time. I do think ITV4 is probably the better fit though - ITV3 is a bit safer.

Anyway, ITV's rebrands was revealed today but those that have seen it aren't really allowed to talk about it. Some usual marketing spiel to go with it though:

Quote:
Rufus Radcliffe ITV talks about need for rebranded product. Says change in ITV - once glacial - now "terrifyingly fast". Radcliffe says viewers love our content. But not our brand. 30% of British audience says "ITV does nothing for them". Current identity "not working" we need to emphasise that we are "at the heart of popular culture". New ITV brand shown. Fincham says it will be fluid, adaptable and disposable. Plans too to brand not only on-screen look but South Bank tower. Crozier: "we want to get closer to our audiences" "we want to understand our viewers" "we must increase the visibility of the work we do"

Absolute rubbish as always - anyone who can add up can conclude if ITV does nothing for 30% of the audience it must do something for 70% of the audience, which is actually rather good you'd think. And I can understand Fincham describing it as "fluid" and "adaptable", but "disposable" - so they've commissioned something they can easily drop?

Whether or not 30% of the viewers dislike their branding, does it really matter? I never understand that as a method behind a rebrand, because do most viewers actually care what the branding is? I can hardly picture anyone thinking "I'm not watching Downton Abbey tonight because I don't like the ident that comes on before it".

I also doubt that viewers are that attached to a channel that branding 'does something for them'. TV audiences are pretty fickle, and TV viewing is planned around everyday lives, not the other way around.

I'm all for the rebrand, but purely because it's been 6 years since the last one and it has been pretty rubbish. But I have some level of interest in it, which I'd assume the vast majority of people don't.

He says people love ITV's content but not their brand... that may be true for a small percentage of people, but many people hardly notice brand compared to content.

And lets face it, the brand can't be that bad if the current look has lasted 6 years which in todays tv market is a long time. I think personally its quite a good brand, its adaptable yet unified across the whole network including news and sport.

I must say though I am looking forward to seeing the new look, but at the same time completely dreading it, because if its awful we know we have to live with it on our screens for probably a few years knowing that we have lost a fairly decent image.

There's an idea for an ident concept in there, somewhere Laughing
