I agree it is probably the best slot - Mondays at 8pm. As you said, wedged between Coronation Street, it would probably pick up more viewers. I can't really think what is in that slot at the moment. Countrywise or something?

EDIT: Just looked and it is indeed Countrywise, which I would have thought would make more sense Thursdays 7:30, wedged between Emmerdale! Laughing

The Monday 8pm slot does really well for ITV1 considering the opposition. Tonight would almost certainly rate better there, but so would any of the 'opposite EE shows'. ITV1 must feel that the likes of Countrywise and The Dales rate better than Tonight would at Monday 8pm

Also, doesn't Dispatches air at Monday 8pm?

It was doing that when Tonight was on there anyway. Tonight began on Thursdays at 10pm as part of the 1999 revamp but it didn't do very well so in the autumn it was moved to Wednesdays at 10.15 to get a better lead-in from Corrie when it went out at 9.45 after the Champions League (there were loads more Champions League games in those days because of the second group stage, almost one a week, and when there wasn't a late Corrie they wouldn't do Tonight). In 2000 it was on Thursdays for the first half of the year and Wednesdays for the second half, then in 2001 when News at Ten came back they announced that 10.20 was too late for it so it moved to two half hour slots on Mondays and Thursdays. The Thursday one moved to Friday after a bit.

Yes, UEFA Champions League has been taken off tonight for a unknown reason with The Dales and Lewis airing instead. Rolling Eyes I wonder why?

Football is on ITV4. No British club involved so doesn't warrant an ITV1 screening perhaps ?

Presumably it's because last week's match with Celtic rated hideously with less than 2 million whereas this week there would no British interest, or indeed any interest whatsoever.

I notice that Holiday on the Buses is on ITV3 (started at 20:00) but it is listed on the EPG as two separate programmes, the second part starting at 21:00. Why would this be? There is no "followed by some nonsense" in the description for the first part but I expect they will show something inbetween the two parts, but if they aren't listing it on the EPG, what is the point in splitting the film in two on the EPG?

EDIT :They just showed some filler nonsense at 20:50.

Ugh, why didn't they just show the entire film, THEN the filler?

Because the filler breaks the film down into what is then considered to be two separate programmes meaning ITV is able to air more advertising than they would have been able to if it were one continuous programme.

I think that we generally said "BBC" to mean BBC1 for many years. If we were talking about BBC2, we'd explicitly say "BBC2".
I think that "ITV" will be used colloquially all the time to refer to ITV1 by many people.
One of the reasons ITV became ITV1 was to draw attention to the fact that ITV now encompassed more channels (albeit unavailable for those who didn't have digital and that's a situation they don't really have to worry about any more).
Similarly, BBC tv was rebranded BBC1 to help to draw attention to the fact there was a BBC2 (albeit unavailable for those who didn't have UHF, a situation that lasted for some time).

Indeed. Smile

And, of course, anybody born after a certain year/date will have no memory of any pre-"ITV1" name for the channel.

So, as those of us who *do* remember regional names etc grow older and eventually die, the number of people who stubbornly never get out of the habit of using either an old regional name, or just "ITV" (without the "1") will gradually dwindle, over the coming decades.

I actually got into the habit of calling it "ITV1" very quickly when it first changed. I was born in 1980, so regional names were around for "only" the first 21 years of my life - which, in about another 10/11 years' time, will start to become a minority proportion of my lifetime. If I were still calling it "Central" (or whatever) by the time I'm aged 80, that would be ridiculous of me!

You sure? I thought the rules only imposed a limit on the amount of advertising per hour, not per programme, although you can show less adverts in one hour and more in the next, as long as the average doesn't exceed the maximum. Therefore, they could still show the same amount of adverts.

I read it on either DS or somewhere else a while back. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there a specific rule relating either to films or shows of a certain length which prevent the broadcaster from airing a break within the first 20 minutes or something? I can't quite remember what it specifically was but I'm sure it was because of this rule that these fillers were introduced. I'll have to do some digging!
