I would agree that the ITV1 name hasn't caught on, too. For example, here, people either call it 'Anglia', or 'ITV Anglia'. Even the kids know what Anglia is, and you can catch them referring to it as such, although they probably use the ITV1 name more.

And then this is different everywhere. I'm sure people still refer to Granada and Westcountry (although what do people in London refer to? Thames? LWT?). The name is there - but it simply isn't used by normal people.

I know an 8 year old that calls it Central, because his mother calls it Central.

Well, there's not much else to in the Anglia region... Razz (I joke)

I haven't heard anybody call it Granada for a good long while. I usually hear "ITV," even before it became ITV1 and was still Granada, people called it ITV.

I'm more likely to hear ITV than ITV1 down here.

I find it's a generation thing, my generation refer to ITV1 rather than Anglia. I find the older members of my family also generally use ITV, not quite ITV1 but as good as.

Seems that way. Changing to HD would require that the graphics be remade. Pointless if they need to be replaced again four months later.

Not strictly true, the current graphics will have been designed in HD, so they could easily switch to HD as soon as technically possible with the same graphics package. BBC News has demonstrated that quite nicely.

Are you sure? The ITV News logo on astons has looked really badly scaled since they updated it to the glossy version.

And also, the BBC News graphics still went out in SD during the HD bulletins, only the titles were in HD.

Yes, the graphics were upscaled to HD. When BBC News moves to BH next year and BBC News gets a new look - the graphics will be changed and will be in HD.

Given that the package is quite recent I would be very surprised if it wasn't designed in HD, especially as BDA designed it. What ITN do with the graphics is another matter.

As for BBC News I didn't pay close attention to the graphics during their HD broadcasts from the Olympic park, but the graphics certainly are HD during BBC Breakfast.

No, all BBC News graphics whether generated in Salford or TVC are upscaled to HD for any HD broadcasts. They are not HD graphics.

Nobody round here says Tyne Tees - it's either ITV, ITV1, or 3 (probably partly down to Channel 3 North East).

I'd ask the same too

The graphics in Salford, that's Breakfast and North West Tonight were re-built by Graham Price in HD and aren't the same as the ones in London (they move faster and in more parts and are better defined) Salford's output is always downscaled to SD but is sent to transmission HD!
