I think ITV 1's new logo should just be plain white, or even that gradient they use on the x factor logo because I hate the yellow gradient

I think there's been more desperate cross-promotion/advertising on ITV1 tonight than I've ever known!

Why desperate ? Just making sure that a potentially large audience get to know about some of the new programmes coming up. Isn't that what the BBC have been doing for the last few weeks during the Olympics ?

Alright perhaps not desperate... corny then.

The normal reason that ITV1 has breaks consisting of nothing but trailers is because of the deal they did for the merger. It's a bit complicated but AIUI it restricts the amount of advertising in an evening. therefore when big shows like X Factor are on all the adverts will be put on during that and the programmes either side will just have trails.
That said I think there were some during X Factor too, I assume it's just a quiet weekend for ad sales

As a concept, ITV Day was essentially pretending to be a completely different channel during the day as I understand it. Fast forward five years and we see almost the opposite (albeit at a different time of the day) with Daybreak.
At a time when ITV1 as a name hadn't really caught on yet, introducing another brand wasn't the best idea, and seemed rather likely to fail - admittedly I do say that with the benefit of hindsight.
I think that whole 'ITV Day' thing was a good idea, just executed badly!

This is why I never understand why X Factor launches in the middle of August. If they launched it 2 or 3 weeks later, they could double up the audition episodes over Saturday/Sunday, could gain momentum and could probably squeeze another episode off the cutting room floor without risking overkill.
