Little Britain, QI and Gavin & Stacey are the immediate ones that come to mind.

QI was a BBC2 show. BBC4 used to show the next episode a week early originally though. The Apprentice You're Fired was the other one I thought of.

Irrelevant of peoples tastes on here, there are some shows on ITV2 which have proved popular and the fact that they have been kept on ITV2 has helped cement its brand identity as a channel, rather than just an add on to the 'main channel'.

Yeah, although it's carving out an identity in the evenings, it's still an ITV1 timeshift most of the time

I would say ITV2 tends to be a so called timeshift during the day for practical and cost reasons. The bulk of the ITV audience during the morning will be watching This Morning, so it would be pointless them showing a new show when a cheap Corrie or Judge Judy repeat will fill the slot for the few watching ITV2. Also at night Xtra Factor and spin offs of other ITV 1 shows make sense as about a million or so will turn up for what are like fanzine shows for the main ITV1 show- think of Big Brother's Bit on the Side.

What's good about ITV's channels is that they resist temptation to upgrade their successful shows to ITV1. If a show on BBC Three gets significant ratings or attention, it's bumped up to BBC One or Two. TOWIE or Celebrity Juice couldve sat comfortably on ITV1 but they are ITV2 shows. It shows more respect for the multichannels in my opinion, and helps keep their distinct identities.

That hasn't really happened that on the BBC either. I can only think of a couple of programmes that have moved from BBC3/4 to 1/2 even the successful ones have stayed put. That is except for repeats on the 'main' channels which they do more than ITV, although Celebrity Juice has had a second showing on ITV1

Don't forget about Torchwood that went from BBC3 to BBC2 then to BBC1!
Have I got News For You started on BBC2
MOTD2 started on BBC2 and will now be on BBC1
I am sure The Apprentice first started on BBC2 before moving to BBC1 (but I could be wrong on that one)
2 Pints of lager... went from BBC2 to BBC3
Quite a few programmes went from BBC2 to BBC4 (Timewatch for example)

ITV2 is a fairly trashy channel but it targets its audience perfectly. When ITV try similar trashy shows on ITV1, it very rarely pays off and TOWIE or Celeb Juice wouldn't really fit in on ITV1 anyway. I'm sure if they found the right format they would 'promote' a show but the two channels are very different.

Absolutely agree - it's about targetting the audience. New Girl on C4/E4 is a good example - on C4 it flopped (mainly thanks to very poor scheduling - a US comedy alone in the schedules at 8.30pm on Fridays) and hovered around the 1m mark. It's now been moved to E4 and got 700k+ last night, undoubtedly a hit for a digital channel.

And The Apprentice: You're Fired started on BBC Three, before moving to Two. And, every series finale, it's on BBC One.

Correct - first two series were on BBC2, the rest on BBC1.

Just think of two words- Love Island- perfect for ITV2, but a disaster for the older ITV1 audience who had little interest in Z list celebs trying to pull each other. Actually it was utter carp to start with, but did have a following of 2 million or so mostly young women and would have done very well on ITV2.
I notice after this show was cancelled, other distinctly girly reality shows like WAGS Boutique and Katie and Peter were confined to ITV2.

Family Guy? Junior Doctors? Don't Tell the Bride? Have they moved?

Little Britain and Gavin and Stacey moved because they had wider appeal and it's an insult to compare them to trashy Towie, Peter Andre **** and Celebrity Juice.
BBC3 trashy stuff like Don't tell the Bride and Sun, Sex and Suspicous parents stay on BBC3 despite being just as successful for BBC3 as G&S/Torchwood.
Stuff like Towie doesn't belong on a main channel.

Commercial interests need to be remembered too - I suspect something like TOWIE getting around 1m and being a hit on ITV2 is probably more attractive to advertisers than it getting 2m and being a flop on ITV1.

Yes ITV2 is a niche channel, aimed at young women in the main, and if 1.5 million of this type of viewer watch TOWIE it's a cult hit. If it was to be shown on ITV 1, which trends older and is a more general channel, it would be a flop and the bulk of the ITV1 audience would probably switch over.
ITV 2 does seem to have moved on a lot as tastes have changed in realityland. No longer do they make reality shows based around Z listers in a clothes shop and seem to have gone for scripted reality.

I think I may have missed the significance of this break bumper on ITV1. Is it programme related?
