Similarly, I wonder if many people still use the old regional names depending on the ITV region they come from.

Guardian article on the Sun on Sunday's sales:

mediaguardian.co.uk posted:
The Sunday Mirror was cut from £1 to 50p in the Carlton (London), Meridian (south coast) and Central (Midlands) regions. Stablemate the People was cut from £1 to 50p in the same regions.

It's still quite usual for advertisers to refer to promotions as "excluding Tyne Tees, etc." Very effective way of dividing the country but it's surprising to see Carlton getting a mention there.

Considering they are talking about The Sun on Sunday, if anything it should be the LWT region!

"Our channel brands are increasingly important in the constantly evolving digital market. Those channels linked to a strong ‘mother brand’ (ITV, BBC, C4, C5 and Sky) have recorded growth in SOV this year while other independent digital channels have seen a marked 9% decline. To consolidate this strength and build upon it we will be rebranding all of our channels during the second half of 2012 to position them for the challenges and opportunities which lie ahead ."

'These all represent encouraging trends in our engagement with consumers but our challenge is to monetise the audiences we now have across multiple platforms. We have invested in fixing our online technology platform in 2011 but still have some way to go and the quality and the performance of ITV Player will further improve. We will continue to invest in navigation, ease of use, content and robustness to improve the quality of the overall user experience on our website ."

[...]

"2011 was the first full year of the pay HD channels ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 on the Sky platform, and they performed in line with our expectations. In early 2012 we signed archive video on demand (VOD) deals with Lovefilm and Netflix and a VOD and catch up deal with Sky. These are non-exclusive deals which enable us to retain the option of doing similar deals with other parties should opportunities arise. We will also be launching a pay version of ITV Player later this year, which we will start to test internally in the second quarter of 2012. While this is slightly later than originally anticipated, we want to guarantee the quality of the user experience before launching to the public."

From the ITV company results.

Got a while to wait then!

Here in the West region (on freeview) ITV1+1 sometimes shows you programmes you didn't get an hour earlier on ITV1... now that's quite an impressive catch up service!

The reason being, of course, that our +1 service comes from Wales

Not for much longer Wink

I see that ITV+1 in the West is now actually the West region and not Wales.

This is from wikipedia:

On 1 March 2012, four additional variations were launched for the Anglia, Tyne Tees, West and Westcountry regions, with the South East Macro becoming Meridian, West Macro becoming Wales and Yorkshire/Tyne Tees Macro becoming Yorkshire.

Ahh yes I see! So why have they decided to this? I still get Granada on ITV1 hd? What macro is this? I assumed that both ITV1+1 & ITV1 hd were the same regions? I would prefer NET on hd rather than +1 it's annoying changing over!

It's due to a number of the old micro regions being closed, now that there is no news service or specific advertising being sold.

They've changed the endboards, they are now plain black with centred writing in the thin ITV font. Much like the 'Drama 2012' promos.

Phasing out the over-exposure of the yellow maybe?
