A logo with more prominence on the numeral could be neat. Perhaps each channel could have a shape associated with it, which would house the numeral.
I just can't figure out if this is the best approach, or if the ITV text should be visible.
For instance, is this ident enough to signify viewers are watching ITV4 and not some other channel?
Compare to this:
Where the overall channel name is more obvious, but the logo feels 'slapped on'.
Certainly a tough call, and I'm sure it's going to be what the designers are going to be thinking about a hell of a lot with this rebrand - do they try and go for uniformity with the logos, as now, or create unique channel logos with unified "ITV" text, focused around the channel numeral?
Unrelated, but the original ITV4 idents are quite suited to ITV3 I think.
Looking at your post, I would say that the current idents portray ITV4 through the subtle use of the logo colour and more so due to the stylising of the '4' in the logo, rather than ITV's 1-3 that seem to be straight from a font.
Looking at the original ITV4 ident above shows that they used a clever design, and worked well to establish the channel. In fact the full Red Bee package worked well, ITV3's were very stylish & still work well today. ITV2's created a brilliant new direction to the channel, and I still believe the 2006 package was a lot stronger than the 2008 - current white set. ITV1's was most probably the weakest of the bunch, but mainly through music I preferred them to the current.
I remember mass itv channel relaunch day in 2006, it felt like a whole new company, especially with many new shows being introduced at the time also.
As for the squares logo posted, it seems a bit dated to me, though maybe it's the 3D angle shown.
I suppose similar to the above posted, the colouring could change, and the numerals differed to match the output of each channel.
The ITV4 pres package was (and tellingly still is) great but the initial idents' concept was one that could have been utilised for any of the 4 channels, cleverly playing up the family logo design but lacking a clear connection with the content of the channel.
So...uh...I just found out "ITV Granada" exists as a channel...for Asia, did anyone know about this?
It used to operate as just 'Granada', but later with the tagline that it was part of ITV Studios.
It's available in parts of the eastern Mediterranean and Middle East as well as Asia.
That's not quite right, that is the logo for Granada Productions, which are indeed part of ITV Studios. 'ITV Granada', the Middle East and Asian channel looks like this. Note: this is not a mock!
Which is why I said it
used to operate as just 'Granada',
and that was the correct original logo.

Unsurprising that they didn't last too long.
I think (although my memory may be playing tricks on me) that the "identity" for the original ITV4 idents was called something like "expect the unexpected". Don't forget ITV4 was quite a different channel when it launched - there was far less sport, and none of the Sweeney/Minder/Police Camera Action-type stuff which was still on Men and Motors I think. It was much more "aspirational" than it is now so they weren't quite as odd a fit as they look know.

Actually, I must admit that I do watch quite a bit of ITV4 nowadays, compared to when it first started. In those days it was for some of the old ATV/ITC programmes such as Space 1999.
Nowadays they have some decent films on - such as the Bond franchise and more recently Escape To Victory, plus I do like watching The Professionals, Batman and The Fall Guy.
Anyway isn't it about time they repeated Dempsey and Makepeace, Yellowthread street (never been repeated, I think, and I misssed a few episodes when it was first shown) and even bring back The Equalizer.
A promo was shown on Saturday night for ITV Drama in 2012. Rather than just focussing on just one programme, this one covers most of their dramas for the coming year.
I guess ITV were having problems trying to sell advertising space during last saturday night, because it aired a lot of adverts for itself. One break in particular was just made up of ads for ITV programmes.
