I have to agree - I think that changing again so soon would be seen as damaging to their brand. Quite how they would rebrand the channels is a different matter. They may do well to change from numerals to spelt-out numbers to differentiate the new look.

I agree. I think we're going to see an evolution using the current corporate logo, rather than something completely different. There's plently more they can do with the individual channel identities, although going for words rather than numerals would make them too similar to the BBC channels.

Furthermore, if they changed the corporate logo they would have to change the signage on all their buildings. Presumably, when they were sold the current logo they were convinced that it could be adapted sufficiently in the future without being seen to be constantly changing the core brand.

Let's remember that Rufus Radcliffe made a mark at channel 4 without altering the main 4, or E4 logo (I'm not sure whether he was related to the FILM4 rebrand, an if the upcoming MORE4 was planned was he was at channel 4).

I suppose the difference is that the '4' channels identities are all completely different, logo & presentation wise, where as with ITV, whatever concept they create will have to contain the 'ITV' brand.

In addition, the 4 is such a strong symbol compared to the itv logo, and has been used since the launch of C4.

And I'd argue the same for E4.

Very true, but for a type face logo, the current one is not bad looking, has not dated and could be used in a much better way than simply being overlaid onto some images.

In my opinion, it's currently in a similar position to the first 'five' branding. Although the itv logo is more than Helvatica, the idea of placing it over the image is quite weak branding.
It needs to move in the direction that five took it, and start to integrate the logo and animate it into it's surroundings. I suppose the itv4 - '4' does this to some extent, even if it looks quite cheap. The challenge it to integrate all the channel logos in individual ways.

I really hope ITV are seriously pulling their socks up now, in response to vastly superior presentation on BBC One, and generally infinitely better services (the BBC website is one of the best in the world, let alone the country).

Priorities should be:

- a careful, well-thought out rebranding of the main channels, creating both a cohesive look and unique, bold channel identities

- a full relaunch of the ITV website, with particular focus on the homepage, ITV Player and the ITV News and Weather sites (luckily this has been confirmed as happening in the spring)

- schedule/channel adjustments where necessary; cleaning up and optimising the primetime schedules in particular

It's a large undertaking but as it stands ITV is not fit for purpose or for the future - let's hope and pray Crozier's still got major cards to play.

You can't compare the BBC & ITV websites, particuarly the BBC News & Sport websites which probably have more staff working for them than half a dozen ITV regions.

Just been watching the beautiful Sky Atlantic idents on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5oH-yHkw24&feature=autoplay&list=FLjMCXGcI0TYSs0qeJooSO6g&lf=plpp_video&playnext=1

and it made me think something like this could work well for ITV3. But rather than britain and usa, how old and modern scenes used.
The channel needs to keep its lovely drama style with its idents. Don't copy the Atlantic idents by scrolling sidewards, but somehow compare a similar setting in say the 1960s and 2012 or even go through several years in one ident a bit like some adverts have done in the past.

If done right it could look lovely.

You're right, those idents are beautiful and something similar would certainly benefit ITV3.

I'm itching to find out more about the plans, surely there's someone on the inside who uses these forums? Cool

Not really, true the current presentation is okay, but the ITV corporate logo is very boring lol.

Don't think it's a stretch at all.

That might be a bit chintzy but at least it's not terminally dull as ITV1 in particular has been for the last decade.
