Broadcast are reporting a big autumn rebrand/refresh for ITV. I can't access the article via Google for some reason.

Prepare for the traditional TV Forum new ident meltdown later in the year!

Although I suspect unlike the good old days we'll get a teaser beforehand on Media Guardian or Broadcast or something - kind of spoils it.

I like the current idents. They should be adding to the set rather than ditching them.

I've no issue really with the current idents but they'll be six years old in the autumn, so it's no surprise they'll be changing them. I do think though the general presentation for promos, ECPs etc definately needs refreshing - as clean as the black/yellow was to start with, it's looking a bit tired now.

I do concur that a new look shouldn't necessary mean a new logo - and whatever ITV do logo wise now it's almost certainly always going to be the "itv" in a box with a number next to it.

Now will they keep ITV1 with a yellow colour scheme so that the news still ties in, or will they go for something different and leave news to update to match at a later date.

Exciting news - the current idents are in need of refreshing so is the dreadful plinky plonky music.

ITV itself spoiled it in 2005, by launching the new logo when ITV4 launched, a few months before it was adopted as the corporate logo and on the other channels in January 2006.

Just looking at the current ITV Channel presentations, the set that appears to be the better produced, most creative, and well branded in my opinion would be ITV3 who've used their presentation the longest.

I wonder if the refresh/brand will be to tie the channels & brands closer together with matching endboards, etc in a Sky design, or to create totally different brands & appearances per the Channel 4 channels.

They've never really worked for me, they're very 'meh' - bland and lacking context. They are quite nice as daytime idents but for the evenings the lack punch, especially considering the style that LWT used to use.

I do hope they look beyond the ident and try new things. I've said this before but I do find the formal ident+announcement format incredibly dull and old fashioned

Interesting news. It's approaching a decade since the glorious October revolution but in that time they've never really got the ITV1 branding right for my money. The current set is certainly the most visually pleasing they've had, competently managed and developed but ultimately it's uninspired stuff; it lacks confidence.

The digital portfolio's are better suited but not without their own flaws. ITV2's second wave has always looked unfinished, ITV3 is still missing a trail scheme and 4, the reverse of the 3, idents on the cheap. You could sense a rebrand/fresh/alignment/jig/jazz coming.

So, yeah, to be expected really. 6 years though...

I remember seeing the new ITV1 logo on a billboard, I thought "huh?" as I hadnt seen the ITV4 logo at the time

The best idents were the ones right before the revamp in my opinion

The problem that ITV has is that unlike the American Networks that also have some initials as their name, ITV has not got a symbol that it can use to brand with.
Unless they try to create a symbol (which would be a daring move), any ITV logo with be some sort of type face in a shape. Maybe they should focus the branding energy into making the numerals the star of the idents, similar to the BBC 1 (stings) & BBC 2 idents of the 90's.

In fact ITV own two perfect idents which just needs a slight modernisation. Of course I am talking about the Central cake/moon and, also from the Midlands, the ATV double eye.

TBH, I would love to see a modern version of the ATV double-eye make a come back as its logo. It does have longevity with it.

They did sort of have one at one point. The triangle from the 1989 ITV logo. But it was never used to full effect, and it was supplanted by the regional logos on the main ident.

I really liked the 2004 idents.

Sure they were simple but were lovely and had the ability to have promos within them, although that feature was rarely used.
