ITV should bring back "Strike it Lucky" and just bump the prizes: Ie £50'000 Top prizes, etc, I bet it could be ratings winner:
anyway, does ITV go crappy format and dropped the half decent ones.
I couldn't see Strike it Lucky working. Half the show as about Michael Barrymore's banter with the contestants. The game itself lasted about 10 minutes.
That's why it was so good, the game was played in 6mins sometimes: none of this slow sting it out....
It's like they have looked at other game shows, identified what people dislike about them and then taken all those elements and put them all in one programme. Sob stories from The X-Factor, talking about answering the question for 2 minutes before actually answering the question from In It To Win It, meeting the contestants from everything made in the past 5 years etc.
This programme deserves to fail and ITV deserve the bad publicity that will come from refusing to pay out to the charities featured in the unbroadcast programmes before caving in and paying out anyway.
I've not seen it but have heard bad things. The idea of having charities competing for money is a pretty flawed one, even if the games are actually any good which they apparently aren't.
I don't understand what ITV has against proper traditional quiz and game shows. Except for Red or Black and the 5pm slot they're all celebrity contestants (are there celebs in this one?) raising money for charity. It's ok for a one-off Christmas special but not whole series. What's wrong with a member of the public answering questions and winning prizes for themselves, it's not as if they don't have some good formats - Family Fortunes and Millionaire?
If they're so keen on giving money to charity why don't they just give it and cut out the middleman?

With the right presenter it would work, there's loads of comedians around who do banter with members of the public really well.

I think Paul O'grady ( as himself) can do more Blanklty blank. On Strike it lucky im not sure who could do it.... I remember Michael would NEVER let anyone one go home empty handed, and on a Charity special he just irgonred Hot spots and said to the produced "Don't make that face at me"

Nowadays though ITV can stretch a game lasting 10 minutes to an hour though. Strike It Lucky wouldn't be my choice for a revival, but it's worth noting that Family Fortunes got 5.3m viewers last night (beating Doctor Who) while Holding out for a Hero barely reached half of that a week earlier.

Of couse, like Play Your Cards Right, the interviews were recorded at length to allow them to stretch them out if the game finished too quickly. I do recall one episode, though, where the interviews were so funny and interesting, they actually cut out a bit of the game, and after the interviews finished it cut to Barrymore in an empty studio who said something about it being so fantastic they wanted to show you all of it, and that we'd now join the game with Dave and Sandra three screens across and so on, and it just faded up halfway through.
