I don't buy into the argument that there is no room for regional TV. It depends on the type of programme- just look at the success of BBC1 Scotland's The Scheme. Gameshows and reality shows won't work on a regional basis anymore but documentaries and even dramas (although not economically viable at this time) can.

Brilliant Saturday Night programme on ITV shocker. Penn & Teller: Fool Us is really very entertaining.

In fact I actually quite like the current line up on saturday night ITV1

Odd One In - a primetime version of Tell the Truth
Penn and Teller - nice to see magic back on TV

only down said is The Marriage Ref - bring back Take Me Out double quick!

Odd One In is terrible, but its really compulsive and even though I do find it a rubbish show I find myself hooked and guessing whch is the right one Embarassed . Penn & Teller is very good, and I like how they aren't foiling most of the tricks too (which they probably could). It keeps the mystery. Marriage Refs is awful and doesn't have any redeeming qualities unlike Odd One In. If ITV couldn't afford anymore couples for Celebrity Mr & Mrs, they would have been better running it with ordinary couples instead.

On STV this morning, at the junction before the ITV News at 5.30 - we had around 3 minutes of commercials.
This never happens. There's usually just one or two promos, then ident into the News.
Anyone know why this happened?

Isn't that post more suited to the requests thread?

Did anyone else think that the promo for 'Born to Shine' was promoting the long-awaited second series of The Interceptor?

I do like the new ITV1+1 trailer. Could the TV's make more entertaining idents than the current set by utilising them as characters?

As for Born To Shine, after the cheap feel to Popstar To Operastar, this programme was a surprise, a very nice set, a nice title sequence & logo, good names taking part, a decent judging panel & a surprise of Natasha Kaplinsky to host.

Also Show Me The Funny was a nice surprise programme, a bit like a comedian apprentice, and I enjoyed seeing the comedians preparing, though as people have said on twitter, maybe more of the stand up should have been shown (maybe not so much of the cringing stuff).

An idea would have been to add each comedian's 5 minute set to the website, it doesn't appear as though they have done it, but do have a video blog of each of the comedians. It would work as a good incentive for people to visit the site.

On the day that ITV announced it was launching the ITV Player on Humax Freesat boxes (and a few others I think) it also announced from next year it will start 'microcharging' on ITV Player for some content. While they were quick to point out on Twitter that Catch Up Services will remain free, they did confirm they were looking at pay-per-view options for other content via the platform. Discuss...
