Any movement of established programmes would be universally disliked I think.
People seem to get in a state when a programme like Coronation Street moves just once for a sporting event (and therefore the usual soap v sport arguments) so moving them permanently would be a no

I think it is obvious that ITV would like Corrie to be on at 8.30pm for inheritance purposes, but won't move it for fear of another News at Ten disaster

An idea I had the other day... I reckon it'd be great if ITV1 had a different look for the weekend. Something really grand and entertainment-led. Yes, a bit like LWT was. I think it would work wonders if they built it up to be THE place for big entertainment shows.

Actually your right, I was just thinking about that the other day. I notice that ITV2's announcers seem to be more lively. I wonder if they could swap some of them over for the weekend shift lol.

Agreed, Isn't Trish ex-LWT Bertram a CA on ITV2, as well as five?

Not sure a facelift necessarily means a new logo (and to be honest, I'm somewhat sceptical of this supposed facelift anyway - it's something that has been mooted for years but never actually happened). If anything there may be a slight graphical change, such as trailers which, IMHO, are long overdue a change anyway.

Thats exactly the problem, when they designed the ITV logo I don't think they thought of designing a durable and memorable logo like Channel 4's or the BBC (which is already 10 years old and still looking strong). The latest major revamp in 2006 has a load of bland logos which they practically do nothing with and makes it look terrible, I think they should make a 3D version like they did in the ITV.com promo. And personally I think the ITV font is being overused sometimes, it doesn't suit some of graphics.

I agree with that. They just seemed to go down the text based route.
The problem that ITV have is that they want a logo that is simple enough to be used on a number of platforms, a logo that can be used on many channels, yet subtley changes for each channel (as the current changes colour), but they could do with something being more memorable.

Channel 4 have proven you don't need the logos to even in the slightest resemble one another if the motif is strong enough.

The BBC are free with the distinctive BBC logo to have any design for the numeral/name of service. ITV, however, are extremely restricted and it's thanks to the new-age circa 2006 logos.

The entire brand could be so much stronger.

The BBC branding looks a mess though as soon as one channel deviates from the generic look. The boxes worked well as an overall brand, but now BBC One has gone it's own way, it seems an inconsistent mess again.

The ITV logos do what is intended, but they need to strengthen the idents and overall presentation to make the logos work better. The new ITV4 idents were an improvement - even if unoriginal, giving a bit of life to the "4" - while the second set of ITV1 idents used the logo better than the first, though the latter additions integrate the logo badly.

Again agreeing, I think that is also the problem, the idents seem as though they were created with the channels in mind, but why then just stick the logo over the top of them, as you say the ITV1 idents have improved, but they are still lame in comparison to other channels/networks. The main problem with them for me is that they are all too much alike, there are none that fit well leading into a film, or sport or entertainment.
At least the original 2006 bunch had that diversity to offer many different idents, its a shame that people didn't seem to like them as much - I think that if the logo had worked with the scene not just been stuck on top then they may have had more success.

Again though, why can't they be more original? Channel 4 have this down to a tee with their channels all having extremely distinct identities. The BBC have gone for a mish mash of uniformity and uniqueness, and so have ITV (but ITV haven't pulled it off as well.)

ITV needs to re-evaluate its logos I think. ITV1 should scream 'this is the main channel!!', ITV2 should scream 'we're the cool channel', ITV3 should scream 'upmarket' and ITV4 should scream 'cops and sport for men'. You get the idea. They should all be different but I think focus on the numeral, of course keeping the 'itv' text.

Obviously the idents leave a lot to be desired - ITV1's are too sombre while ITV2's are a little samey and the music grates. ITV3's are, however, very nice and the new ITV4 idents aren't too bad.
