WELL that was a shocker how Heartbeat finished! it does beg the questions what would have been the next part?

I find it shocking that ITV has chosen to axe what is normally the 5th most-watched ITV programme in the weekly ratings, with 5 - 6 million viewers. What else do they think is going to achieve that kind of success on a Sunday evening?

They've lost the plot.

Heartbeat might have got good viewing figures but they were right to axe it because it had run its course. There are only so many episodes they could do set in the 60s and obviously they couldn't move it onto 1970s.

Wonder why it never moved into the 70's?

Well im guessing because it is a drama set in the 60s - but im sure the producers could get around that if they really wanted to! Smile

Anyone think showing the trailer for 71 Degree's North straight after X factor saying "A brand new series - Next" was a bit strange? Surely not showing it and getting the programme on quicker to capture some of X Factor's audience would have been better?

In theory perhaps, but I guess ultimately ITV decided the ad revenue immediately after The X Factor was worth more to them than the potential additional revenue from a possible extra few hundred thousand watching 71 Degrees North.

Also, wish they'd bill The Xtra Factor accurately - always started five minutes before the scheduled start time, and often before The X Factor credits have finished rolling. I'd have thought there revenue wise they'd want to ensure people flicking from one to the other would at least see a couple of ads (either on ITV1 or ITV2) before it starts. After all, anyone turning over to ITV2 from The X Factor isn't going to tune out just because of a couple of ads when they've turned over specifically to watch The Xtra Factor.

And where was it ever set into stone that Heartbeat could only be set in the 60s, and never move into the 70s?

It would never be called Heartbeat if it moved into the 70s, they were best off finishing the Heartbeat series in 2002 then calling the next one [insert song title of the 70s here]. etc.

Going by that logic, Heartbeat should never have been named after the song, then. It was released in 1958.

That's a fair point and Buddy Holly died a year later, but I guess on the face of it ,the song is associated with the 60s.

Really liking the Downton Abbey Promo - makes the show look really good, which is obvioulsy what a promo should do . It seems reallly "expensive" looking. The promo is one of the better trailers i've seen in a while.

The last year or so none of the promo's have really been that "great" , but in the last couple of months they seem to have improved a lot!

Also nice to have a different endcap. Along with the Paul O Grady promo - they seems to be having more of these lately, like they did a couple of years ago, but seemed to stop doing for the same old standard black one.

Plus they are going all out for Downton Abbey - DA breakbumpers been shown a lot tonight - a week before it starts!

I even saw an extended trailer at the cinema last night. How long is the series or is it simply a two parter, etc?

Does any one else like the choir vocal version of 'Every breathe you take', and does anyone know if it has been released as a download anywhere?

It's a seven parter I believe, the first is an extended episode.

Yeah as Sqaure eyes has said it's a 90 min opening episode followed by 6 x 60 min episodes. I believe the first episode was a sort of extended pilot before the rest of the series was given the go ahead.

Also I forgot to mention the choir vocal version of 'Every breathe you take' - I don't know how I forgot - that's the best part of the promo - seems like it's especially recorded for the promo.

Was there anything significant or different in the extended cinema version?

The song is released in a full version, it can be found here

For me though, It sort of ruins the song when I hear the full version as the edited version used in the promo is just so perfect.

I sort of get what you mean. The edit for the promo, much as the promo itself is perfect.
I think the song piece works that great with the promo that i miss the use of it on the versions without it.

The joyous thing about the promo is that it's selling the programme to me, where as usually I wouldn't look towards a period drama of any description.

Onto specialised trailers, it's a shame that they drop the majority of these after the series has launched.
The Paul O'Grady one being a prime example. A brilliant promo that I believe sells the series very well, and much better than simply clips from the show. They could have easily amended the voiceover to say which guests were on this week, or better still edit it into the song (though that would have been asking for a lot of effort).

I agree!

Just looking on Youtube found a different promo - I know theres a few different ones, bit hadn't seen this one before and has a slighlt different end cap. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v33JomgNF-E

Edit: I think that one is a online trailer advert - as it was on the Radio Times site.

Just watching Corrie on ITV1 HD and the DOG looks a lot darker and nearly fully opaque. In some scenes it looks a very deep dark grey.

I might just be me, but someone else also commented on it.

Why would ITV mess up the one DOG they finally got right?? Hopefully its just a blip!
