The whole thing is just pathetic and ludicrous. What are they going to do next? Stop using the colours yellow and black because it's offensive to bees? Rolling Eyes (he says, using a yellow and black emoticon)

How pathetic some people are in this country right now, then yes. You have to ask why people are so insecure of themselves to be offended by the tiniest of things. People need to grow up and start acting with common sense.

The thing that annoys me, is that they actually listen to these kind of people (and take them seriously) and act upon their request and ITV will bow to little pressure.

I would asked ITV to put these complaints into perspective, but I doubt they will, and will be a pushover just like the BBC are to complaints.

Sony have confirmed at their Gamescom 2010 press conference that the ITV Player TV catchup service will be hitting PS3 consoles later this year.

The ITV Player will sit alongside the popular BBC iPlayer streaming app, which is already available on Sony's console.

Do you reckon it's "political correctness gone mad"?

Apparently they are looking into adding it to the Xbox 360 too, but nothing confirmed yet

Except it's not about causing offence whatsoever. The ident contributes to the popularity of Chinese lanterns - that's the problem.

There is no common sense in releasing these floating fire hazards into the night sky, so yes, I agree!

Me too. I think it's a nice ident, but people really shouldn't let these things off.

Yes, yes it is.

It's not got anything to do with someone 'taking offense' at them, it's the practical issue of them starting fires. If the increasing popularity of the lanterns has increased the number of field fires then maybe the NFU do have a point as part of a bigger campaign against them.

I'm sure the reason they've singled out ITV because their lanterns get a bigger audience

I don't think people would be half as bothered if it wasn't such a well crafted ident, arguably the best of the set.

Although if the NFU are successful I think we should attempt to get some of the less popular idents off our screens. I'm sure someone could claim BBC Two's tagging idents incite vandalism or something.

ITV shouldn't ditch them unless there is evidence that the ident has inspired people to use them. To be honest, Joe Public wont give two thoughts to the idents other than "oh, that's pretty!" I can't see them giving the audience the idea of going out and buying the lanterns.
