Just out of interest is anyone enjoying or finding 3@Three good?

After watching a couple of the shows it comes across as having quite low production values, down to the titles and graphics and even being picky the branding on the mics, having peeling edges and just looking a bit shoddy when they're voxpopping with the public on the streets.

Is it just a trial set up or is this a permanent look for the programme?

It's a two week pilot. They'll judge on the reaction / viewing figures before committing to a full series.

This makes complete sense. Commercial broadcasters all over Europe are finding it difficult to justify free-to-air high-definition, so they scramble their HD channels, while the SD versions remain free-to-air.

We've also seen this in Germany, were Astra have launched HD+ which offers the most important commercial channels in HD for a small fee. We can't rule out that the same thing happens in the UK.

Perhaps we will see a subscription HD offer based on the Freesat platform which brings basic channels (ITV2-4, C4, E4, Film4, Five) in HD for a small fee.

We can however not rule out that this will transfer to the terrestrial platform. If Ofcom decides to convert a second PSB mux to DVB-T2, it is possible that ITV and Channel 4 will have another channel for free in HD. However, I can't see that happen this half of the decade.

I think that perhaps this is the wrong economic climate to be asking people to pay extra to see FTA channels in better quality.

Next year (between Jan-April) will see VAT increases and other tax hikes take bite. Whilst they may be small, on a weekly basis, anyone who had spent £10 per month on getting their FTA channels in HD would perhaps see that as a simple sacrifice to negate the increase in the food/fuel/household budget.

It's not a difficult choice, and I know which one I'd choose.

Only they won't be paying £10 a month for FTA channels will they ? ITV2,3 & 4 will be part of the Sky HD+ subscription package, amongst the other HD offerings.

Pay TV has actually been exceptionally resilient throughout the recession, it's viewed as more of a necessity these days as people spend less on going out.
I'd argue that pay TV has managed to keep growing during the recession due to the fact that both Sky and Virgin offer reasonably priced telephony and broadband services which just so happen to include pay TV. My mum's going down the Sky route and has little interest in the TV offerings.

Oops ITV1 HD liked the first part of An Audience With... so much they played it again after the first ad break for about a minute. Looks like it switched to the SD feed for the rest of the part.

Must commend ITV for recomissioning the 'Unforgettable' series with new hour long episodes 10 years after the original series originally aired and has been repeated throughout. Tonight's Bob Monkhouse episode was brilliant and I wouldn't think I'd see something so well made and interesting comissioned by ITV today.

Also have enjoyed 3@three in the afternoons. Fiona Phillips has become slightly less annoying and it's quite a well made cheap daytime programme. Nice set, theme tune, look and feel. Nice to see Carol Smillie back on the screens after so long too. The interviews with Liz Dawn and Nicky Campbell were also really interesting. Just a shame it's only on for another week. Though if ITV did bring it back I'd get rid of the '3@three' name. It's quite cheap, unimaginative and sounds like it took 2 seconds to think up.

Sounds like an uninspired local radio feature to me.

It was very interesting, you can understand why he kept very private about his personal life. Bob was the last of the great all-rounders, not many of them about today.. or I guess thats just me getting old! Looking forward to the Jeremy Beadle one.

A few tech blogs are saying that apple is planning on renaming their apple tv product to iTV - interesting to see how this plays out if true!

I always thought it was called that? But I think they did change it for the UK, obviously to avoid confusion, although as they always use a lower case I for everything they do, they might be able to get away with it, but who knows.

It's currently 'apple tv' worldwide. I'd be amazed if ITV just rolled over on this. Would apple get away with bBC TV? I think not!

iTV was what it was originally called before it was launched and Jobs kept on accidentally calling it that during the keynote speech where they revealed the product. Presumably they changed the name because of our ITV and I can't see them bringing back iTV now. Have Apple got an iVision product yet?!
