If ITV does buy Virgin Media’s 50 per cent stake in UKTV, this could help enchance UKTV line up but could lead to the killing off, of other ITV channels.
Would this not mean itv would own Dave?

Only 50%.
Isn't there also the preference option for BBC Worldwide to buy out VMtv's stake in UKTV before any other bids can be considered?

So?
I don't think that demonstrates a good business model, although you obviously disagree.
The Times/Sunday Times used to claim to be influential. You can't be influential if nobody reads your articles; making a profit becomes rather pointless if you only have a handful of subscription readers rather than a multitude of those accessing your site for nothing.
ITV don't have many products that could qualify as a USP for subscription TV services.
They lost 95% of their web traffic, and presumably advertiser funding too!

...with an ever diminishing readership.
What is the point of producing a newspaper, albeit a profitable one, with hardly any readers? I'm sure that the journalists would become disillusioned in the end that only 'Great Auntie Gladys' and a couple of other people were reading their well-researched pearls of wisdom.
They're not doing it to be influential. They're doing it to make money.

They're not doing it as badly as you think, Stuart - take a look at all the articles on MediaGuardian. I doubt it's just your Aunt that's reading. Bless you.
