I still don't understand why there don't make a bit more of an effect, with that slots afterwards.

2am: Record programme like old Night network
4am: repeat of the 9pm Programmes
5am

STV nightshift is live from 2 - 5am with CA it only has 1 hour cycle of programmes, I did suggest showing High road at 5am.

So the real question is why has both compaines decide to put on night time programmes now?

You are going to have to accept that there is never going to be signicant investment in night time TV. There is no money in it, no advertising to be sold - no audience.

There is no point in providing dedicated programming say for shift workers, given that the useage of PVR's are so widespread these days. People up at that time of night don't have to rely on scheduled output they just timeshift peaktime output on their Sky + or cable / freeview equivalent.

Repeats of main 9pm primetime output won't happen on STV / ITV - repeat fees are expensive. There isn't the audience to justify it.

The BBC make no effort, they use it to fulfill their signed quota and simulcast their news channel and many commercial networks are trying to monetise this dead air by putting out teleshopping / gambling services.

Proper scheduled programming at nightime on ITV is dead.

Worth noting that Channel TV stuck with a two-hour block of Nightwatch with Steve Scott. Didn't see how it was introduced, I guess a local ident.

I noticed that, as CTV are not part of ITV PLC, they are not involved in this further erosion of ITV's PSB remit Cool

But was it the same Nightwatch programme that you refer to ? They are filling the gap created by The Zone every night.
I suspect it's nothing more than teletext pages and music, like 'Nightscreen' ?

I should think Channel are rather annoyed, someone now needs to be on duty in the middle of the night, whereas up until now they've just faded up the dirty feed from Meridian and all gone home !

Judging by Channel's listings on their website it is Nightwatch with Steve Scott that is shown in place of The Zone, after which they go back to ITV1, and then when it comes to ITV Nightscreen its listed as Channel Nightscreen, which is highlighted in blue like the rest of their regional output.

I guess they've just got to get round the legal side of it for now, as I doubt Channel would purposely opt out of the Network during the middle of the night.

That's right, Nightwatch with Steve Scott. Caught it again the other night and it was preceded by a channel ident, as you would expect.

This is probably because Challenge Jackpot services aren't available to Channel Islands residents. The same is also true of Northern Ireland, meaning that UTV can't broadcast The Zone.

The following is taken from the Challenge Jackpot terms and conditions:

3.2. You must be a resident of Great Britain to register and play on the Service(s). If You are resident anywhere else (including but not limited to Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands), You cannot play on the Service(s).

A bit of a bug at the end of More Talent with the credit squeeze - the credits all moved as they should, but left behind the credits (the font) in the middle two, meaning you had two sets of credits overlapping each other. I guess that kind of indicates the credits are made so the text is independent of the background.
