ITV are possibly in talks about taking over Five!
Of course it could be completely rubbish, but if this is true, what do you make of it?

With RTL taking a stake in the new company I wonder if there can improve the situation?
Maybe there could get rid of Fiver? and must of the context to ITV2 and itv4?

I would have thought merging ITV4 and Five USA together, and merge ITV2 and Fiver together would make sense.
Not sure what they would do about names, would they just keep the ITV names? And would Five stay like it is and still be called Five or would ITV make it into a new channel under the ITV branding??
Lots of questions can come about. Like I said earlier, it could all be nothing!

Surely ITV5 would be the most obvious name?
ITV could then set about ruining the absolutely fab idents and branding on FIVE, move all its best programmes to ITV1 and run it into the ground within a couple of years.
Sounds like a typical ITV plan!

If they named it ITV5, the ECP would go: ITV1, ITV5, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4
Doesn't sound so good does it.To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if they kept the name.

If it happened - and it's a very big if - I'd imagine Five would become ITV2 and they'd probably keep ITV3 and ITV4 but rebrand the rest and put it behind a pay wall.
Of course though due to competition concerns etc. it should never be allowed to happen - but we all know how the broadcasting regulators in this country seem to view things which should never be allowed to happen.

I dare say the main channel Five will have to be kept,
KE
Channel 5 has got various PSB commitments (such as News, Current Affairs, and Party Political Broadcasts), so I cannot see Five becoming ITV2.
This takeover might never even happen, plus Ofcom could prevent it from happening.

Quote:
ITV’s unrivalled ability to deliver large audiences on ITV1 means that the Contracts Rights Renewal (CRR) undertakings are still needed to prevent the channel from exploiting this position to the detriment of advertisers and other commercial broadcasters, the Competition Commission (CC) has concluded today.

So ITV has to keep going with the old process

If they named it ITV5 then they'd have to rename ITV1 to ITV3...?
