Phillip Schofield mentioned on This Morning that their on air monitor in the studio (would this just be a TV picking up the analogue signal?) was just showing snow and they also turned a camera around so we could see it for ourselves. He wondered if they were actually on air or not. At the about the same time, the subtitles stopped, mid-sentence. Maybe whoever was doing the subtitles also lost their pictures/sound too. What could have caused this? Was ITV1 off air this morning on any platform in any area? I was watching on DSat (Meridian South) and there were no problems there.

EDIT: At 12pm, Phillip Schofield welcomed back viewers in the 'London Analogue' region as they had lost them for 3 minutes.

It seems a lot of the ITV1 Regions on Sky switched to 704x576 today, I guess with new encoders, so it's possible the change was connected to the analogue and subtitles loss.

Archie Norman talks about ITV entering the pay-TV market again, and though it's something he believes the broadcaster should be looking at going forward, he dismisses rumours that ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 will be put behind a pay-wall.

Quote:
we have no product suitable for a pay platform right now. Speculation we might take ITV2, 3 or 4 onto a pay-TV platform is not realistic. Were we to develop a proposition in the pay [TV] market we would need a very different product than we have at this time.

Also states the bloody obvious in that the BBC cuts announced this week will benefit ITV in no way at all.

It's been that for quite a while... ITV DVD has become ITV Studios Home Entertainment...

Granada America (the production arm based in the states) has also come under the ITV Studios umbrella, although it's just called ITV Studios, rather than ITV Studios America or anything stupid like that.

Come Dine With Me Australia has Granada Australia, but 'An ITV Studios Company' tag underneath:

The obvious thing to do would be to relaunch ITV Sport and move anything that doesn't have mass appeal off ITV1 and ITV4, and buy some new rights. I can't really think of much else that ITV do which will be relevant for pay TV.

Interesting that they've finally realised that their 544x576 soft-o-vision (which drops to 408x576 when showing pillarboxed content - like 4:3 footy) was looking VERY soft in comparison to almost everyone else (and their Freeview ITV1 broadcasts which Ofcom prohibit from going out at <704x576 resolution)

Ooooohhhhhhh....

I think ITV1 might have had a little makeover.

Just had ITV1 on in the background, and notice the logo on a promo looked slightly different, but thought I was just seeing it weird, but then the endcap came on and WOW.

The faded yellow lights have gone, and instead nice yellow flairs are on the screen, the time and day text is now smaller and yellow, and the logo is slightly different.

I'm sure some will moan, but I really liked it. Sorry I couldn't get any caps, hopefully someone will soon.
