Many a ITV company has done this before: STV used 1993, again in 1994, I think again in 1995:

Well I wouldn't mind if ITV1 just repeated last years christmas idents. It was a surprise when they were shown last year and they could easily just go back to not bothering.

Also they were pretty nice despite the dreary music.

There may (or may not) be a hint of what the idents could look like on this ITV Press Release.

Only a possibility.

I suppose ITV will reuse last year's Christmas presentation.

Well why would they bother creating a new package? No one (apart from TV Forumers) is going to look at the presentation and think 'that's exactly the same as what they did last year! cheapskates!' because it's been a year since the presentation was last used on air and the viewers aren't going to remember it. If a few people do remember it they probably won't care that it's been used twice

Shocked Um, thanks for that lecture, I think you'll find I said I didn't mind they would reuse them (you decided to cut that out of the quote though) - but I hate it when people muscle in and question why ITV should bother to do anything at all, yes - we know they're a commercial broadcaster in a recession, but thanks for the enlightenment. Looks like a generic Christmas image. http://pixojo.com/203/merry-christmas-wallpaper-in-red/

I saw this earlier in the week, and thought the same myself, but obviously it wouldn't be ITV1's colour scheme. I was wondering if they should go for a simple Christmas ident/design with features that can be amended with the different colours of the channels.

ITN use that image on their Christmas Channel.

In that case, why did you edit the topic subtitle to say "ITV1 set to make no effort this Christmas"? Razz

I think the point of BBC HD's idents is to show off the technology, as well as reinforce the diamond logo, is it not?

I never saw the blue/yellow logo in action, but I prefer what ITV has going now as far as identity. The old logo seems very "this is the information age now so we better look high tech" whereas the current one is more in tune with the lower-case, sans-serif image, casual image that mass-market companies try to communicate these days. The BBC have simplified their logo over the decades to the point where the present one is absolutely timeless and could look current for the next 100 years, but even they try it with BBC3's logo and their news site commercials.

What I wish they would do, if they make new idents for anything, is un-3D the ITV2 logo and make a larger variety of idents for it. The rest of it's presentation is alright but something about the angled logo looks wrong to me. It looks very out of place sitting with the rest of the family.

I think the BBC logo will start to look slightly dated by about 2020. I'm sure people in the 60s thought the 60s logo was timeless and would last forever, same with the 80s and so on. These things always seem to end up dating eventually, even if for no apparent reason.

I agree about the ITV2 logo though.
