Admittedly I (like many others) were wrong to scoff at the rumours regarding News at Ten - but this rumour has cropped up so many times before everytime ITV need to overhaul their schedules (so pretty much annually!) - and it's always misinformed journalists speculating rather than researching.!

When have ITV needed to overhaul their schedule for years now? This is the first revamp of peaktime since Emmerdale went 5 nights I think.

If we could be bothered I'm sure we could dig up all those articles from last year too.

In fact nowadays many rumours of this nature start on forums like this, get reprinted in the press - and then end up back on the forums as fact!

I don't think it's been picked up by the press for a few years now. I think you're exaggerating by saying this is reported every year. I'm sure some TV Forum member posts a 'rumour' every so often but that's about the height of it.

To take this topic of conversation to something else, does anyone else feel this schedule revamp should see the official end of the absolutely atrociously hideous 'blue bar' generic previously and next time straps?

They are one of the worst monstrosities I have ever come across in TV presentation and not only look horrid but lessen the uniqueness and diversity of the programmes.

I really hope they ditch all of these gimmicks and leave it up to programme makers to decide if they want 'Previously' and 'Next time' sections and if so to do them how they wish. With the ECP I suppose the bottom third, sorry fifth system will do but it'd be nice for it to be implemented everywhere.

Ideally I'd also let all programme makers have free reign with that too (to an extent, like state all credits must appear on left hand side or something but in whatever style), and design a subtle ECP to work with them.

A bit of individuality and differentiation between shows would not go amiss at all and it would compliment the new, diverse programming they've supposedly made. And I think a lot of viewers would appreciate it.

Also, I think trailers should be slightly tweaked as part of all of this. While I can't see the idents changing, the trailers are overdue a new style - why not now?

What are everyone's views?

Now there's something we can agree on.

I really wish the title for this thread wouldn't keep changing every other day.

It makes it incredibly difficult to follow what the heck's going on; and which are new and which are old threads.

Change the sub-heading, by all means, but please don't keep changing the main heading.

I keep thinking this is a new thread, so I start again from page one, only to find it's all stuff I've read before under a different headline.

Well, using the green arrow is the trick - but I agree, especially with another ITV thread seeming to be floating around too.

Point taken, I'll change it not from now on! The sub-heading will alter to indicate updates, however. Smile

So looks like News at Ten won't be back till Monday 14th January at the earliest, due to Wire in the Blood and Taggart one off specials of 90 minutes.

Odd scheduling of Moving Wallpaper and Echo Beach, though I thought they were 60 minutes each - clearly not, but it makes more sense.

My feeling is that Grade won't go for the 8.30pm Corrie option. I think he'll try to prompt BBC1 to 'box-in' EastEnders into a 7pm slot. He could achieve this by the following weekday schedule:

5.30pm Evening News
6.00pm Local News
6.30pm Emmerdale
7.00pm Tonight/Local programming/Quiz
7.30pm Coronation Street
8.00pm-
10.00pm The Bill/Lifestyle/Comedy/followed by 9.00pm Drama
10.00pm News

BBC1 will want to move EastEnders away from its 7.30pm slot on Tuesdays and Thursdays to avoid a clash with Corrie and to give it a regular time across the week. Between 8-9pm is problematic because it will disrupt their 8pm dramas (Holby/Waterloo Road) and the 9pm slots that follow. Moving EastEnders to 7pm will avoid this, however the audience will then move to (and possibly stay with ITV1) from 7.30pm onwards when Corrie starts. I think the 8.30pm rumours are a bit of a smokescreen. Also, the above schedule is similar to ITV in its heyday (with Emmerdale replacing Crossroads). It also solves the problem of occasional football on Tuesday nights - Corrie simply moves to the earlier slot of 7pm.

It's streamlined, but not too radical...
