But yes Chie, the BBC HD idents are terribly politically correct. The cat that tuns into a lion in particular is blatant ageism.

If you read my post carefully you'll see that I'm actually saying they're not politically correct enough !

And they never will be (with the exception of the dancers idents) which is why the whole concept of idents with people in them is flawed. Either represent all of your viewers or don't represent anyone and just have CGI idents instead.

I have no idea why you lot all seem to be fans of the current ITV1 presentation.

It's absolutely dire, and eclipsed by Channel 4 and BBC One easily by huge margins. The idents are extremely uninspiring, with only the tenuous yellow linking them together, the music is insipid and dreary, they're inconsistent - I could go on for ever.

The only part of the package I can take is the trailer endboards, but even they are inconsistent with different font sizes the whole time for titles and timings.

The whole package needs to be completely redone from scratch bar the logo which is fine. It needs more unity, polish and oomph.

I really think the problem with ITV's idents is the soundtrack. I feel their logo is good, I feel the actual graphics and concepts are rather good but the soundtrack makes them seem plodding and a bit crap..

I agree, the logo is good and should not change, also the ITV typeface is nice. They are the two best things of the post-blue/yellow squares era. But the graphics need polishing and the music is above all the worst thing.

The idents are also quite dull, we need more explosive, exciting idents for ITV1's supposed "entertainment focus" - not a birds eye view of some people painting a street.

I agree, the logo is fine and quite a change for ITV to have something which is versatile. There is alot they could do with it.

Although I don't really watch ITV2, I do like their idents. ITV3 and 4's suit their audience quite well, too. So why do they have such a problem creating something decent for their main channel?

LWT used to produce some excellent idents. That wasn't one of them! Shocked

Oh I seeeeeee. In which case I'd take exception on a slightly different tack. Although I loath to pigeon hole things into PC and non-PC I'd probably agree with the dancers. They were a silly idea and I was glad to see the back of them.

However I think the difference between the current BBC HD idents and the "people idents" of the early 2000s (such as the dancers and the UK Gold people on spacehoppers) is that the people in them are secondary to the action. In the case of the cat/lion, fish/shark, dogs/huskies it's mainly animal based and the focus is on the lens effect rather than the people, them being just part of the setup. I'd liken this to the C4 Tokyo ident, there are people in it but they're much less of the action (which is perhaps why Bowls has vanished as it was more of the classic style).

I think the only one that is truly a people ident is that horrible music one which is the runt of the pack.

But yes, sorry for misreading that.

Definately not!

Yes! Although that was just one of a series of very nice idents. It obviously looks rather dated now, but it had an impact, which is what is sadly missing from ITV1's current offerings.

I even prefer this Carlton example to what we get now!

I suppose ITV will reuse last year's Christmas presentation.

I'm glad - it's better than the usual presentation by a mile. Shame about the music though.

Well why would they bother creating a new package? No one (apart from TV Forumers) is going to look at the presentation and think 'that's exactly the same as what they did last year! cheapskates!' because it's been a year since the presentation was last used on air and the viewers aren't going to remember it. If a few people do remember it they probably won't care that it's been used twice
