The idents are bearable, it's the music that needs changing, it's so depressing. Although the original January 2006 ident package wasn't great, at least all the idents had their own soundtrack to them. But I give it to ITV, I'm surprised these idents have lasted 3 years now, the longest since National branding started in October 2002.
But do the idents accurately represent the ITV1 of 2009? A common criticism is that they lack a distinct hook, something they've belatedly attempted to shoehorn in with 'The Brighter Side' tag. Whilst the original six at least are excellent pieces of film I'm not sure they fit in with ITV's aim to turn ITV1 into a dedicated entertainment broadcaster. They're too moody and deep.
Absolutely. They should bite the bullet and turn it into what generations of management have always wanted - a big flashy, brash, entertainment channel. To do that they need to ditch the whimsical abstract plain odd idents and go for exciting, loud, fast and colourful
Please don't read much into this, but a while ago I asked ITVinsider whether ITV would be doing anything for their 55th birthday next year regarding a rebrand/revamp and the reply basically said he couldn't actually reveal but something will be happening.
Of course he may not have meant new idents or anything and maybe just a special one off ident or something like they did for their 50th but it sounds like something will happen.
With regards to the current ident, I like the idents themselves, but like many others, it would be nice if they each had their own music.
One thing I have noticed with the idents is there is no real winter ident. Lots of spring/summer type idents (Beach, Bubbles, Basketball, Buildings, Market, Pavement Art and Garden) but the only other ones are Fountains, Bike and Boat and none of them really have a winter feel to them, more an autumn feel.
I've always thought it would be nice to have a more winter type ident but that's just me.
So what sort of idents would other people like to see, would you like themes idents related to programming, seasons etc or not really have a theme.
Another question, which channels idents do people like? I actually quite like ITV4's idents, I know they don't have many, but like how the 4 comes alive. I just think they need another 'generic' ident.
I was looking at two of my captures of the ITV1 Pavement Art ident and noticed something - in one clip (recorded in January) the ITV1 logo had shadows cast on it, in the second (recorded this week) it did not.
