They're not football teams, Chie! Have you actually looked into the case and the merits of ITV arguments? Rolling Eyes

Yes, STV owes ITV money and they need it now. ITV is not a charity.

ITV wouldn't launch a £38 million lawsuit at the moment if they weren't 99% sure their case is watertight.
Hopefully STV will see sense and arrange an out of court settlement.

No chance, because OFCOM has clearly stated stv has done nothing wrong dumping ITV programmes. also

Quote:
. Since early 2008, ITV has prevented STV's independent auditor, Deloitte, from carrying out a full review of all revenue related contracts which STV has the right to do. However, on the 5% of revenues which Deloitte has been able to review, a potential shortfall of approximately £2 million (covering only 30 months of a six year period) was identified. STV will be pursuing this and further claims.

what is ITV hiding? I think there throwing the toys out there pram, ITV are going to lose here, you can see it a mile away. its also ITV fault for spending the money there know there would never get, and if there never bother there backside to ask STV in the first place then again its there fault!

Huh?

They could launch a £38M lawsuit even if they thought they were 20% right.

Pretty shocking to hear that ITV hadn't even served papers to STV before they went ahead and made their press-release. Perhaps they thought the threat of litigation would be enough to force a settlement.

As it transpires, STV have their own counter-claim for advertising revenues unpaid - and claim Deloitte, their appointed accountant, hasn't been given access to audit ITV's books.

This could add up to a sizable amount.

Perhaps better that ALL of this business is dealt with through a court.

Its worth mentioning that ITV claim some of the monies they feel are owed date back TEN YEARS - so how come the media are suggesting that this is all to do with the recent opt-out strategy?

Because someone is feeding them duff information, that's why.

It's not all about dumping ITV programmes, though.

I don't think they'd waste hundreds of thousands of pounds in legal fees if the odds of winning were 5 to 1 against. Not to mention the negative publicity that losing the case would result in.

Have you worked out what the risk/reward ratio is for a judgement in their favour of £20,000,000 net - even if it costs them £1,000,000?

I guess ITV have to find the money from somewhere to fill the giant black hole in their pension scheme fund - which I'm told runs to tens of millions now...

I hope ITV wins.

I find it so depressing reading all the anti-ITV comments elsewhere. These people mustn't watch anything on ITV1 ever, they really seem to have no clue how good it is. Do they really want to be stuck with middle-class BBC, sophisticated but mediocre Channel 4, Five with its endless American imports and the multitude of parasitic repeat and +1 channels? What a boring broadcasting world that would be.

Personally, yes. I flick through the terrestrial channels every so often & although ITV does have the odd, good drama, most of it is dross.

I find a lot more watchable programmes on the BBC & Channel 4 channels. ITV 3 is good but the rest to me is just a load of crap. Five I very rarely watch though TBH.

Seems ITV1 Southern Transmission ad playout is quite embarrasingly freezing up in tonights X Factor, with it freezing up for a good minute during the first break on Anglia West (and apparently quite a few other regions), and I'm told by dbl London froze up briefly during the thrid break.

Have ITV started to comission kids programmes again? Reason I'm asking is because there's a new show on CITV next week called 'Farm Camp', which is being funded by Morrisons of all people. Surprising considering CITV is mostly repeats and imports.
