but it was a bit weird yesterday during the x factor - sometimes they were using the x factor breakbumper & sometims the old ones with "the brighter side" on them.

And tonight I'm sure they used them during family fortunes but not during x factor . IIRC they were using x factor breakbumpers and just normal ones durin XF!! STRANGE Laughing

If the purpose of the X Factor break bumpers is to remind people to watch X Factor, it would seem a little pointless to show them during X Factor.

yeah but they were using both x factor ones and normal ones during x factor !!

I never said they weren't - just that doing so was pointless.

The 'brighter side' bumpers look really dreary, as do ITV's idents. I keep forgetting that they actually had one or two bright idents - the one on the beach and the one of the skyscraper. I think the ones that stick in my head the most are the ones with the golden fountains, and the bicycle on the street, and both of them are gloomy - that's the image I associate with ITV1.

They could easily stick with the theme, which is pleasant enough, and just add some more upbeat sequences to the set, like one based at a concert, fairground, etc.

I have to agree with skyfan - whilst the 'celebrity' idents weren't amazing, they were memorable, bright and fun.

Totally agree. In fact, I think there's something ironic about images like this...

A night-time image for 'The Brighter Side' does seem a bit, well... stupid.

Hmm.

"ITV1 is as illuminating as a sodium streetlamp".

ITV takes legal action against STV to recover 'up to £38M' of unpaid network programme payments

ITV plc has today launched legal proceedings against Scottish channel 3 broadcaster STV in a bid to recover what it claims is up to £38m in unpaid network programme budget contributions.

STV, which owns the ITV1 licences for central and north Scotland, has increasingly opted out of a raft of ITV plc-produced network programmes, such as The Bill and Doc Martin, in a bid to save money and boost homegrown commissions.

It seems that ITV have decided to sue STV over an alleged debt of £38m, according to Broadcast:
Broadcast posted:
ITV has launched legal proceedings to recover £38m of debt from Scottish franchise STV.

In a statement, ITV said the debt had accumulated as a result of STV not honouring its contractual contributions towards the network’s programming budget.

"STV is attempting retrospectively to opt out of an increasing number of peaktime programmes which contravenes existing agreements,” it said.

“The company is also wrongly attempting to claim a rebate against programmes which have been ‘written off’. We are currently withholding monies from STV against this debt and currently believe the net debt is approximately £15 million to £20 million.”

In the statement, ITV added that it had been “attempting to resolve this matter for more than a year but unfortunately our efforts have been unsuccessful”.

“Given that we are a commercial organisation, with responsibilities to our shareholders, we are left with no option but to take legal action to recover this sizeable debt,” it said.

I hope ITV wins.

I find it so depressing reading all the anti-ITV comments elsewhere. These people mustn't watch anything on ITV1 ever, they really seem to have no clue how good it is. Do they really want to be stuck with middle-class BBC, sophisticated but mediocre Channel 4, Five with its endless American imports and the multitude of parasitic repeat and +1 channels? What a boring broadcasting world that would be.

They're not football teams, Chie! Have you actually looked into the case and the merits of ITV arguments? Rolling Eyes

Yes, STV owes ITV money and they need it now. ITV is not a charity.

ITV wouldn't launch a £38 million lawsuit at the moment if they weren't 99% sure their case is watertight.

Hopefully STV will see sense and arrange an out of court settlement.
