because eastenders and emmerdale don't clash . sorry wasn't very clear!!
How is it good news on the soap front? All they have done is reduce the number of eps on a Tues/Wed and add them to Thurs. If they cut back the episodes to 4 a week for both Corrie and Emmedale that would be good news.

Fair enough but I only watch Emmerdale out of those 2 so it doesnt bother me anyway.
I would have axed the 6th ep of Emmerdale as 5 is more than enough and had Emmerdale Mon-Fri at 7pm and then had Corrie at 7.30pm on Thurs That would leave the 8pm hour free on Tues-Thurs on non football weeks for other programming. The way it is now it seems the soaps are clogging up the schedules or perhaps thats the idea as they have a clue what else to put on.
Better still move Corrie back to Sunday not Thurs as Sundays have never been quite the same on tv since Corrie was moved.

It's not good news at all. The Bill moving was an opportunity for new content in the 8pm hour on ITV1, but we've lost an hour already to the soaps - and therefore we'll effectively lose that hour on the BBC too as they won't compete with them.
Using the Sunday slot was the better option for Corrie IMO, but these changes do basically fill an hour of primetime ITV without them having to shell out much more. I expect though extra Emmerdale and Corrie episodes may turn up on Wednesdays though - and I think they've paved the way for the BBC to take the slot for a fifth episode of EastEnders.
Grime Fighters is on Wednesday at 7.30pm in non-football weeks according to Media Guardian.

but eastenders is on Thursday @ 7:30 , so corrie couldn't go against that!!

According to a tweet, Grade is guesting on Simon Mayo's five live programme tomorrow (09-Jul-2009) might be worth a listen.

Why not? Emmerdale went up against it on a Tuesday night. Or failing that put it on a Sunday night.

I though that there was some sort of agreement that eastenders and corrie wouldn't clash , as it would harm both soaps.

No idea. Im not talking about Eastenders anyway, im talking about how ITV could better schedule their programmes - they could have easily kept 8pm soap free as others have suggested by putting Emmerdale and into the 7pm hour.

I think the phrase you're looking for is 'rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic'.
It just looks like more deckchair shuffling on the promenade deck to me!
