A monochrome scene with a person at work bored to death, then goes home, sits on the sofa and presses '3' then all of a sudden their TV lits up and cuts to a whirlwind of well loved entertainment programmes (Britain's Got Talent etc...) and zooms back to that person with a happy demeanor.
I actually like it. Looks nice. It's obvious what they're trying to say about ITV1, that it's the 'brighter', more cheerful side of television.
I think we all realised that. It's just the style of the promo seems at odds with the style of the channel.
"What is the current campaign trying to say? The production is great, no problems with that at all, but I've come away from watching a massive long video and have no idea what I'm meant to be thinking about ITV1?"
I was aiming it at the this comment - should have quoted I guess.

I also realised that, it's obvious what they're trying to get at, but it doesn't match ITV1 in any way. As someone said previously the promo is the kind of thing you'd expect from a channel like BBC Four. The promo wouldn't even sit well with BBC One, let alone ITV1. So if anything I come away with a stronger feeling that ITV1 doesn't know where it is or how to get where it should be. And I'd suggest the average viewer with no interest in TV Forum would come away with no particular memory of this campaign and no unquenchable desire to switch on ITV1.
A flashy, upbeat promo showcasing the best ITV programmes set to some popular (but not too modern) music would have worked better. It could've had memorable scenes from Corrie and Emmerdale, sweeping shots of gameshow audiences, performance clips from X Factor, scenes from ITV dramas, goals from whatever football matches they've shown recently, somebody winning lots of money on Millionaire, that kind of thing.
And instead, we get a promo with kids lobbing rocks at the clouds on a beach. I think ITV1 is a great channel which is rather under-rated at the moment, but I'm afraid they're digging their own grave with this kind of rubbish.

They have done many promos like that, ones for the ITV Player spring to mind, yet they never get discussed
I agree the new promo is dull and a bit strange in what it is meant to be saying but I wonder if it hadn't got mentioned in the papers before it aired, would it be being discussed now.

"Dear Ofcom,
What is ITV doing in it's new advert? Showing kids it's alright to throw stones - and as for the parents leaving the kids unsupervised on beach... Well, it's a disgrace. Close ITV down immediately."

Also, I've noticed a pattern
"Get Ready" (1989)
"TV from the Heart" (1999)
"The brighter side" (2009)
So come back in 2019 for ITV's next slogan, if they are'nt bust by then!

Oh yeah, I think that that is another thing they neglect, the fact that they are channel
three
, which gives them an oomph over their competitors. They should be reminding us that they have the higher slots for a reason, and reminding us of that reason.
I love how, for a channel that's supposed to be the "brighter" side of television, the promo looks bland and murky in the camera shots colourwise. Is the boring and drab colour selection supposed to symbolise the current boring and drab output of the channel?
What most people seem to have overlooked is that the promo isn't really aimed at the viewers, it has been made to attract the advertisers. If they featured a load of clips from their most popular programmes then the only message the advertisers would get is that the safe same old programmes are the only ones that attract the auidence. I'm not sure if this promo manages to sell the brand, but that is essentially what it's there to do.
