You are probably right, but can't help a little wishful thinking. I guess the current idents do kind of tie in with 'The Brighter Side' theme. But then who knows?

Actually it was the best part of three years, it was dropped officially when ITV became ITV1 IIRC, although they were only ever used on the promos, they were still about in 2001. Although there was that weird point between the start of ITV1 brand and the end of the Regional continuity where there were endless rumours about a new look ITV1, as it looked quite a mish mash of having the blue spinning hearts and Carlton hearts idents tagged along with a new ITV1 logo and an ITV.com logo for good measure aswell.
So then, how long do we reckon until the strap line is dropped. "TV from the heart" only lasted a few months IIRC.

The northern regions were worst for having a mass clutter of logos on screen. Quite often they'd display other ITV channel logos over the ident when talking about them. I remember on a few occasions seeing an ident complete with logos for Tyne Tees, ITV1, itv.com, ITV2 and the ITV Sports Channel all on screen at the same time.

Remove the excessive logos so its just the region and ITV1 and I think that era was actually quite good. Its much better than the current idents and why they dropped that logo is beyond me. But after 3 years they've finally realised they can do more with the current corporate logo and they seem to be moving in that direction.

I liked it when they made the 'ITV1' logo three-dimensional, when their logos looked like chocolate bar wrappers. I thought that the middle-shade blue/yellow (with the highlights) logo looked very good.
