Have ITV added some sort of sound effect to the skyscraper ident or was that just a technical mistake?! It was like a whooshing noise as all the flappy yellow things start flapping! Very Happy

Nope, the effect you describe has always been there, as this video neatly demonstrates. If you listen closely there are subtle effects in some of the other idents too, when the puddles erupt in Fountains for example.

It's just the later additions that have the different effects on the music though.

Interesting development with The Bill being cut to a once a week, 9pm series.

A good move in my opinion, it will become a more appointment-to-view show, I used to watch but found I couldn't keep up with two hour-shows a week, especially on two consecutive nights. It'll also allow the show to be grittier, with scope for the odd swear-word or more implied violence, which might help the stories be more believable.

Good move by Fincham, let's see the soaps sorted now, shall we? I'd put Corrie back on Sundays at 7.30pm, ditch the second Friday episode, and then scrap the hour-long Emmerdale. When the time comes, instate Corrie on Tuesday or Thursday at 8.30pm.

I think the best ident that shows off the effect is the market with the birds flying around, there's a sort of high warbling in the background, if that makes sense. Plus if we're having these idents for a while, any chance of them bringing back the boat ident?

Boat ident is still very much in use...you just don't see it much as it's a bit boring compared to the rest (cue hilarious comments about how they're all boring). Overnight is best time to spot it Wink

I'm a little shocked, but apparently Heartbeat and The Royal have been axed. Shocked

Why can't ITV just be honest and rather than blaming the credit crunch just put it down to the ratings? I'm surprised The Royal has lasted this long to be honest, while Heartbeat has been creatively bankrupt for years now. That said though, up until Corrie was ousted out of the Sunday slot it was still a ratings winner.

It'll be interesting to see what they come up to fill 30+ hours of Sunday TV a year. I imagine they'll have another Sunday night drama in the pipeline, but will probably mainly fill the slot by airing more of their cosy detective dramas at 8pm instead of 9pm.

'Axed' is just the Daily Mail spin on it, the Guardian says 'shelved' - http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/jan/28/heartbeat-falls-victim-to-itv-ad-slump and Heartbeat will still be on for at least another year

Still, a least there's an obvious ending for Heartbeat just demanding to be used: the dawning of the new year of 1970.

I lost interest in Heartbeat a few years ago as soon as it became clear it was never going to move on from the 1960's.
Heartbeat should at least be set in the mid to late 1970's by now depending on whichever year it was first set.

According to this article, ITV have suspended production of Heartbeat, due to a backlog of unbroadcast episodes

Causing a rift in time and space that disintegrates the entire village in a mass of expensive CGI?

That would be fun.
