Apparently if ITV were to sell M&M then basically they would have to give 50% of the sale to Sky, as was agreed when Granada Sky Broadcasting dissolved in 2004, so for now it's cheaper to let the channel run, although giving it an original comission really surprised me.
They would have been easier rebranding M&M to ITV4, rather than launching a seperate channel showing much of the same thing and aiming for the same audience.
Not too surprising but ITV are renaming their itv.com Catch Up service as the "ITV Player". No word though whether this means the videos will actually work!

I watched it today and it's different (the player). You can now skip to parts of videos. Still crap in comparison to iPlayer though. I quite like the ITV Player logo, however.

The ones that a different to that or have some kind of glow on are good. It shows they can do something good with the logo, they just don't
Well that logo looks terrible, horrible effect added, horrible use of a play symbol and another horrible move away from the branding.
What is it with the 'player' name. We all know that it is a player of sorts, but You Tube has survived quite nicely without having to add 'player' or rebrand to such an extent.
What would be wrong with something a bit different, such as ITV Replay?
As for the branding of ITV since 2006, I wouldn't say that they've been awful. The original flat colour coded logos have worked well, it's just that now, everyone is taking the branding into their own hands, colours are being forgotten or reused, or everything uses the white logo. When no guidelines are in place, this is what happens.
ITV Player doesn't roll off the tongue as comfortably as Sky Player does and we all know where the 'player' suffix routes from.
The new logo isn't bad but it's not good either. The 'ITV' sits awkwardly inside the play symbol which they'd have been better off incorporating within the 'P'.
I've never been a fan of the current ITV branding; their previous look was far superior in my opinion.
I think they've gone for calling it ITV Player, because that's what a lot of people have been calling it already. Channel 4 will probably follow eventually now they're using 'Watch Online' instead of 4OD for they're streaming service. The general public will just understand better if everything has a similar name.
