What ident history (Christmas and normal) does Peter Fincham and Michael Grade have?

Well since they've arrived at ITV, pretty much nothing, but at the BBC, Grade was responsible for the 3 "Snowpeople" Xmas ident from 1984, Fincham's would probably be the current BBC One circles.

with the amount of Bugets cuts happening I doubt there afford them!

Ridiculing clichés aside, ITV1 is crying out for new idents.

Not half. It's a shame that the channel features expensive looking glossy programme title sequences (I'm a Celeb, X Factor etc.), decent enough endboards - certainly getting better with the recent ones - but all let down by the truly dull idents.

Even the announcer had some good scripts with enthusiasm tonight, without going too overboard.

I agree - the 'girls' of ITV1 seem to be making an effort recently - with good scripts and often commenting on the shows just finished.

There seems to be a new female voice on the station too - she is a bit heavy handed with the mic off switch or fader as you can always hear it being switched off as she finishes talking - she has promise though.

Occasionally we get a new male voice (cover?) on a Saturday night with ITV1 but primetime is mostly just the female voices - with Mark and Paul only on daytime.

I wonder why ITV1 have decided to go down this route?

On the subject of ITV1 Idents they are long overdue for a refresh.

I was just thinking this last night upon watching the intro to the X Factor. Thinking about how OTT and extravagant X Factor has become, being introduced by such lacklustre and functional idents really doesn't fit with the programming. I really do feel functional is the word for the idents - and most of them are made even worse by being accompanied by the same boring music.

ITV1 needs some idents that really capture the spirit of the big glossy programmes the channel is known for.

I know we're all sounding like broken records but I too was thinking exactly the same thing! I recorded the junction going into The X Factor Results Show and on playing it back it's appalling how depressing and buzz-killing the Fountains ident was. The CA was great and the act which followed was great but the idents never looked more out of place. Imagine how much better any of the LWT idents from 1993 onwards (barring the Blue Hearts) would have led into The X Factor last night.

ITV1 is crying out for its own Neon ident for Saturday nights.

I have to say I like what they're doing with the 'ITV1 Presents' brand. I hope they keep it and branch it out onto other things such as 'ITV1 Presents an Audience With ...' for one off specials. I like the 3D logo as well, when the next set of idents finally do come around I hope they adapt the 3D logo. Maybe stripping the 3D logo across the network from different angles will give each channel the individual look they want, but still uniformed at the same time.

Whilst on the topic of idents, I know I'm normally the one complaining saying "ITV don't need new idents because average viewers don't care" but I really think they do now. The alive with yellow thing is good on paper but after its been flogged to death and there are about 3 or 4 idents on a constant loop then it does get repetitive. I think they need something original and instantly recognisable. People who don't even watch BBC One know of the circles and could recognise them, people who don't watch Channel 4 could probably recognise a 'formation'. What does ITV1 have?

Not worthy of a separate thread, however a few minutes ago during the current FA Cup match on ITV they cut to audio of the crowd and...
"ITV is [something] s***"
...could clearly be heard (the something may have been the 'f word', I'm not sure). Rather hastily after this was repeated for a second time the audio was cut, though no apology (or acknowledgement) yet from the commentators for it.

Judging by the picture quality at the moment, they are right. Anyone got a cloth?

The 'new' ITV Sport graphics looks like a barely decent mock from the mocks forum.

LOL - hope someone captured that.

God, idents inspired by the style of The X Factor - think that might be one for Harry Hill.
