I think really it's nothing more than the necessary filler between the two.
If they're wanting to give a show a boost the most logical thing to do would have been to use the slot for Britannia High, but that's been given a Sunday night slot instead.
I wonder if this year's Christmas schedule will be any good under Fincham.
Also, I'm a Celebrity schedules are seeping out, it seems on one Wednesday there is football so no I'm a Celebrity at all, then the following day there is a two-hour edition from 8pm before News at Ten. It will be interesting to see how they deal with evictions.
I'm a Celeb schedules so far:
Sun 16th 9.00-10.30pm - Launch
Mon 17th 9.00-10.00pm
Tue 18th 9.00-10.00pm
Wed 19th - No episode
Thu 20th - 8.00-10.00pm - Wednesday's action and live trial
Fri 21st - 9.00-10.00pm
Sat 22nd - No episode
The week after is the same, except there is no episode on Tuesday due to football and Wed/Thu are just hour-longs at 9pm.

Didn't we hear that there were Christmas Specials of a few shows such as Dancing on Ice, TV Burp and For One Night Only?
And today we hear that they're airing a Christmas special from Stanley Baxter. On reading about the programme it sounds like its a look back show with some new sketches and people talking about his programme. I personally think that the people talking should instead appear in some new sketches with him.
I suppose the problem that ITV have is do they heavily schedule Christmas Day or just fill it with the soaps and Midsummer Murders?
I was sat here tonight at 7, and was flipping through the schedules and I just wanted an entertainment show of some kind, it would be nice if ITV could go back to the entertainment route, even an increase into the weekday schedules would be welcome, especially given that they say today that they want to stop airing dramas and air more documentaries.
Now given the ratings for Britain's Got Talent, The X Factor, Dancing On Ice, I'm A Celeb, it would be a nice change if they air some simple entertainment programmes.
I was also thinking earlier about the Sunday night schedule, and as nice as it is now to have a soap free weekend, with a what was strong Sunday line up, I was wondering if it would have worked better to put Dancing On Ice and other programmes into a low rated weekday slot.

If I was running ITV then I would go with the latter
I know people will say 'If ITV showed something half decent then viewers would tune in' but I don't think this is the case, hour long soaps and new drama would be classed as ratings winners at any other time
Harry Hill's TV Burp aired last year and underperformed, brand new Midsummer would be a hit at any other time, lackluster episodes of the likes of My Family on BBC1 gets about 3m more than they would at any other time, plus of course there is the Christmas Day EastEnders situation
It's best for ITV to show any major highlights on the other days
Maybe they should try a Christmas edition of The X Factor where a load of past contestants perform Christmas hits. The judges vote for who is the winner of that show and the winner wins nothing. I know it would be criticised for being a load of cheap rubbish with no point, but BBC1 have been trotting out SCD specials for years now

Part of me was wondering if that's what they were lining up Dancing on Ice for, to try and compete against the Christmas Day Strictly Come Dancing.
I still find it very strange how everybody seems to flock to the BBC on Christmas Day. I presume people put it on in the background, and then don't bother to change it, as surely it's not just because ITV have adverts.
As for The X Factor, I was thinking that ITV should do a Champion of Champions programme the Saturday after the final. I know that it is the same week as the Strictly final, but I've found it odd how ITV don't line anything up for the Saturday before Christmas, especially this year when there will still be 4 shopping days, and surely advertisers will be after the space.
I think I'd prefer to see ITV put the emphasis for special editions on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, at least then you are likely to have a few more people watching.
Hopefully they'll put some effort into presentation too this year. Surely a couple of simple idents like the ones that they use now wouldn't cost too much, and could be used again if they need to.
It would be a good change if they did away with everything and opted for a CGI Christmas character that used to be created in the later regional years. Weren't the last ones the 2003 reindeer that could have been used as an ident (and I'm sure that's what UTV did, didn't they), but ITV didn't.
