A Dancing on Ice special is the perfect programme to fill the final Saturday before Christmas when the X Factor is not on air. I do always think that they miss a trick by not doing a Popstars style programme on the Sunday before Christmas to see if the X Factor winner is number 1, saying that though, the first year that they do it will most probably be the first year that they don't make number 1.
It's nice to see them putting in some Christmas effort, though I would like to see something in the way of Christmas presentation this year, even if it's one ident.
I do think that they should use Christmas as a ground for testing out ideas for different styles of idents, to see if they work, if you understand what I mean.
Are they going to miss out an episode of For One Night Only next Sunday with the X Factor on at 7, or will For One Night Only replace heartbeat?

Re: Christmas, apparently there will be the following specials this year:
Dancing on Ice
Harry Hill's TV Burp
You've Been Framed!
For One Night Only
Who Dares Sings
Midsomer Murders
and rumours about Benidorm. Nice to see a few festive shows cropping up.

Oh I know! I really hope Peter Fincham orders some Christmas pres this year. He did at the BBC, but we know the two companies operate very differently. Last year's was decidedly UN festive, it wasn't cool.
As you say, even just one ident would be good. I hope we see more than a few sparkles on trailer endboards this year.

They've said it will air at a later date. The show is genuinely live then according to the trailers this week - I assumed it was recorded.
Dancing on Ice makes sense for Christmas - possibly a Champions on Champions special, which they didn't do at the end of the series. IIRC the Christmas TV Burp's are usually a quite disappointing rehash of gags from the year - but isn't a new series due soon?
Still no Ant and Dec though - so as usual ITV will role over and just play out Midsomer Murders on Christmas Day (after the soaps) rather than giving the BBC a good scrap with some of their heavy weight stars. I think Dancing on Ice and Ant and Dec, combined with the soaps, could really put up a challenge to the BBC, who are probably just resurrecting another comedy from the seventies yet again.
Back to Sundays, and any news about what's on Sunday nights for the rest of the autumn?

TV Burp is back at some point in October. In an ideal world ITV would drop the soaps but realistically it isn't going to happen. They want to just restore weekends and their winning Sunday night schedule. They should be working on areas which need to improve, not destructing ready made ratings winners. Gameshows and live shows don't feel right on a Sunday evening. Saturday's need more material and a lot of the things they are trying on a Sunday would go down a lot better on a Saturday and would provide a much needed pool of shows instead of flogging the same You've Been Framed/Talent Show/Gameshow combination.
ITV's main problem is that their relaunched schedule back in January was built around shows so pull one show out and the rest collapses. It should have been done the other way round.

First promo I've seen since the mini-refresh with a different background on the endboard.

I believe that's the night the Strictly final is airing so it wouldn't be the wisest scheduling decision.
You make a good point, but after the weeks of Strictly vs X Factor, the last week ITV have generally not offered any competition. Last year that had a Christmas choir programme, at least it was a Christmas programme though.

I always thought The X Factor final was on the last Saturday before Christmas, but last year, due to one of the contestants (Emily Nakanda) dropping out after videos of her happy-slapping were revealed, the final took place a week early?
EDIT: It appears I thought wrong.

I think they were due to have a double elimination one week but because Emily dropped out they didnt do that therefore it finished the right week.

Hence the planned double eviction (prior to Emily's removal from the competition).
It was always due to end that date because they have to have enough time to get the single out so its eligible to chart for the Christmas Number 1.

And they lost an episode at the beginning of the live shows too due to the Rugby World Cup.
