That one's rather boring compared to the other two. It would probably look good in HD, unfortunately there isn't an ITV2 HD Confused

The ECP on ITV1 doesn't look right now, rather messy. I hope it's just a temporary measure to highlight the change to people who might not regularly watch ITV2 - tempting them into having a look - then revert to the 2D version.

This new look is ugly and pretty pointless. If any ITV channel was in need of a new look, it would be ITV 1.

Don't forget ITV3 and ITV4 will also be getting a rebrand soon so presumably both channels will get a new logo which will also go onto the ECP, so the ITV2 one won't look so out of place.

An interesting article I just found from the Belfast Telegraph, published on Tuesday:

UTV Media in Belfast has lambasted ITV plc after the London company’s boss Sir Michael Grade suggested that subsidies to regional broadcasters might be terminated.

Sir Michael told City analysts: “We cannot go on in a position where we are subsidising Scottish Television and Ulster.”

John McCann, the UTV chief executive, has gone on the offensive, writing to regulator Ofcom to complain that ITV was raking in “millions of pounds” in subsidy benefits while failing to distributing the proceeds to regional broadcasters.

UTV and SMG, which owns Scottish Television, have now joined forces to rebut a demand by ITV that they should stump up more for ITV1 programmes.

In a follow-up statement to Mr McCann’s letter, Michael Wilson, managing director of UTV Television, said: "I absolutely refute the notion that UTV is in any way subsidised by ITV.

“ITV has taken a position on this that is not only wrong-headed but it is also deeply misleading.”

Mr Wilson accused ITV of ignoring three key issues — the going rate for programmes UTV receives from ITV, the subsidising of ITV plc digital channels and the failure of ITV to pass on to regional companies any of the cost savings resulting from the recent Carlton/Granada merger.

He added: “Under no circumstance will we pay a penny more to ITV for the current content they provide.

“I firmly believe we are already overpaying and I'm in dialogue with Ofcom to address this specific point. My intention is to reduce the fees, not increase them."

Mr McCann said: “ITV gets subsidy benefits from repeating ITV1 shows on its digital channels and from on-air cross-promotion that we carry and we've never seen any of that returned to us.”

UTV contributes about £10m and SMG £15m a year to ITV1's programme budget.

A spokesman for ITV plc had no immediate comment to make today.

After a few days of viewing the new look, I'm going to agree. I still think that they should have just tittervated and added to the old set, it was a great concept, why get rid of it all?
They could have even fitted the 3D logo into the old idents as they did with the XXL Thursday branding.

The worst parts of this new look are the endboards, credits and next caption which have taken all character out of the channel in my opinion. I know that they only used to be green and use that plant and/or city backdrop, but it was so much better than white.

The other bad part, as others have stated is definately the 3D logo with the 2D logos. As for the new looks for ITV3 and 4, I hope that a new logo for them won't be mentioned, as making their logos 3D will be very pointless, just as it has for ITV2 in my opinion.

ITV1's presentation (idents aside) is looking very nice now IMO.

I love the black and yellow sparkle dots theme, it's lovely on the trailers (finally which have one endboard) and the ECP is finally good too for both sets of credits. All we need now is some better idents and ITV1 will be at its best for a long time.

As for ITV2, the logo is fine in 3D, and the idents are good, but the trailers and ECP are vile. They look fresh from a cheap programme and look like they were given about half an hour's thought. Such a shame really.

Also, ITV3 and ITV4 will need to tweak their logos too to make it work, but what can they do? ITV2 has skewed the logo, there's little else they can do now. Rotate? They also need to revert the DOGs to transparent on all channels. I also think perhaps they should use the 2D variants on the ECP perhaps too.

It reminds me of E4 when it first launched (albeit the other way about). The original DOG was 3D and didn't quite look right. They had the sense to make it 2D. Unfortunately ITV2 have done it the wrong way about and changed it now.

The idents look quite good but the logo is just a pointless change.

Seems a little unfair given the difference in size between the two companies.

I did wonder how long it would take before ITV started to blame UTV and STV for the mess they're in. After all, they've pretty much hacked off any regional commitments they had, so picking on the better-run outposts would seem to be the next logical step.

I did notice that pre- the 'revamped' ITV2, there were trails running with their own unique endboards, and with action that continued across to the endboard - I don't like that when they brought the new style in on the 20th, these effectively got straight 'pasted over', not always very gracefully, with the bland new substitutes - it really is a waste considering it's a replacement devoid of character.

I wholeheartedly agree with any sentiment that an expansion to the existing set of idents to mark the new season would have been more worthwhile.

The 3D-ized and angled logo comes across as creatively bankrupt - a desperate attempt to make the channel stand out - to me, it's backfired by creating an unfitting, 'odd one out' look when all the channel logos are now placed alongside each other. Cross-channel consistency sacrificed in the name of drawing attention in a rather cheap way; that's how I see it.

I don't expect a reversion to a 2D logo solely on cross-promos, as that would see two different logo styles in use at the same time.

That implies more than one programme of that genre in my book. In view of the fact that 19:00-21:00 is a fixed schedule, that only leaves the 21:00-22:00 hour for some "thrilling" programme(s).

Unless, of course, the plots of Emmerdale and Corrie on Mondays are going to be depicting crime, mystery, or espionage in an atmosphere of excitement and suspense. Wink

Wink Quite. Thriller nights with Emmerdale, Tonight and Corrie don't really fit the bill. Bless ITV, they do try!
