A reliable insider on DS (proven in the past) has posted the following about ITV:
"I have heard a whisper that ITV have decided that it's time to brand their genres rather than their company, in an attempt to split its programming on its main channel ITV1 into a more themed look.
*Promos will change, with a preview of what is on tonight on ITV1 (the next four programmes) and a 'Pick of the Day'.
*Credits will not be squeezed to fit promos at the end of programmes to restore a professional look to programming.
*Credits will be similar to starting sequence in shows, with unique backgrounds & fonts.
*The corporate feel that ITV has become will generally disappear in favour of the experiments going on ITV2 (XXL Thursday) and ITV3 (Crime Season).
*Regional brands will become more unique as ITV want to feel 'homely' for viewers. Only a few regional companies will offer its new logos (Anglia, Central, Channel, Granada, HTV, LWT, Meridian, STV, Tyne Tees, UTV, Yorkshire), with the rest expected to merge."
Interesting.

All sounds just about believable until:
Aside from the fact LWT no longer exists and that STV and UTV are only part of the ITV network, not ITV plc so would therefore be unlikely to launch new logos just because ITV plc regions were, someone is trying to convince me that ITV plc are going to bulldoze through 6 years of solid consolidation at a time when they are promising even more cutbacks? I'd love to believe it but I just can't see it happening.

I agree Luke, most probably some kid with an over active imagination, ah those were the days.
As for ITV, surely they need to concentrate on the branding of the channels. I do like sub branding, and think that all dramas, sports and films should be preceeded by a sub brand, either the main ITV SPORT, or ITV1 MOVIES/DRAMA, it is also a way to reiterate a point.
I'm not sure that in this day in age that any broadcaster would want to remove credit squeezing, and I still think that ITV's is one of the better ideas, simply for the fact that it's always the same size and legible (with the exception of some US dramas and films). I quite like how ITV's font is used, though I do prefer programme specific backgrounds.
Hopefully we'll just see ITV1 aim for a new look.
On the subject, with under two weeks to go has anyone seen or heard anything more on the new look to ITV2?

Yeah I was thinking about this. All we know is there's going to be a new logo, but it'll still be in the lime green colour and that ITV3 and ITV4 will also be rebranded next year. No word on ITV1, which arguably needs redesigning most.
Interesting there will be a new logo so soon after they unified the logos though. It may just be the numeral changes, I suppose. Though it is a surprise we haven't heard or seen anything, no press release or nothing.

If this is coinciding with a print advertising campaign, won't this launch before hand? I'm sure with other changes with channels such as BBC Three, new branding was used before the relaunch.
As for a new logo, I do like the idea of numeral changes rather than it being something totally different. I think all of the channels sit well at the moment with a coherant package, if they are all going to start changing individually it will look like a very bad mish mash of old and new ideas.
If they are to dismiss the current logo altogether, I don't understand why, especially when all that they've done with it is use it as a flat logo when it would be interesting to see what could be done with the logo as a 3D entity.

It does?! After the launch of network continuity it was rebranded almost every single year. Finally they find one that's quite classy and pretty well-received and people want rid of it in less than two years?!

Classy? Hardly.
Whilst the logo is ok the current idents are dull, lack imagination and are accompanied by the same dull music.
If any of the 4 ITV channels deserved a refresh with its presentation package ITV 1 certainly does.
Incidentally on the subject of ITV 1 - I've mentioned this before but we hardly hear a male continuity announcer on the station in the evening - has research shown a female voice is more target? I notice the boys are mostly shifted to daytime.
