Carlton even pre-empted the 2002 corporate rebrand by several months, with frequent 'on ITV1' announcements used during the summer of 2002 even though every station using the Carlton brand still at that time had it's own dedicated continuity team (sadly also the very last Westcountry link, bringing to an end 41 years of continuity from Plymouth, was simply some duty announcer proclaiming 'now on ITV1 <insert programme name>').

Central and Westcountry were by far the messiest in terms of multiple branding.
"You're watching Carlton Television, part of ITV1... coming up next is Central News". Shocked

The title "Carlton Central" was never used on air, even though Carlton always used that name to identify the region.
There doesn't seem to be the final Central ident anywhere on the Net... does anyone know what was said?

HTV completely removed the ITV1 / ITV.com brands from their final ident, but still said "You're watching HTV, part of ITV1. Coming up next its Ultimate Questions". Although it didn't really matter to them since Welsh continuity was retained the following day (up until 2006, that was Sad )

To me the effect was very cheap, even cheaper than the re-edited TTTV ident (the logo changing colour and the text animating on might not havve been much, but at least it was something).

Then, it probably suffered from the fact that it was almost certainly intended as a quick stop gap to use for a few months until the new ITV corporate idents appeared...except that they were delayed by more than a year and so the chevron spun itself silly for over 18 months.

Personally I found it to be quite classy, the powerful version of the YTV jingle used meant that any fancy animations were not really needed

I also doubt it was a stopgap. I don't think Yorkshire were intending to have the ITV generic ident appearing anytime soon. The next ident after the spinning one had so many versions made it surely was going to be used in all junctions when it was designed

No way was it cheaper than the TTTV one -- try to get hold of a high-resolution image of the Tyne Tees one, it wasn't even anti-aliased properly and had jagged lines on the diagonals.

And their final clock, ticking for only a few weeks longer I guess?

There's a trail, ident and look at Calendar video in the YTV 40 thread.

They had a clock during the spinning chevron era, you must remember, it featured 12 little chevrons

Did C3NE have one where it was always 3 minutes past 3 regardless of what the hands said! Laughing

I think YTV had a clock through to 1999, certainly not past the hearts idents. TTTV lost their clock as soon as continuity went to Leeds, they probably couldn't be bothered...

I've got to agree with cwathen about the rotating gold chevron ident. I always felt that it would have worked better had it stopped spinning face-on on the crescendo of the music providing a nice conclusion to the ident. I also thought it just looked a little too big on screen.

Incidentally, apparently there was a real rotating chevron in in this style in YTV reception at the time, but sadly the motor broke after a while.

Not true.

TTTV scrapped their clock in 1989 (which was still a mechanical effort) -- they never brought in a digital one.

When YTV took over continuity there was a clock used occasionally on overnight programmes (all it was in effect was the YTV clock with the TTTV logo superimposed on the top in the same way the next slides were put out).

After TT continuity ended, YTV put out the clock during the day as well -- but this ended when C3NE came along.

I'm not good with figures but I guess this means more editions of Police... Camera... , Action "specials" and expect Bingo Lingo Live to go on an all-nighter.

As for Regional News, well Meridian output is shrinking faster than you can say "matchsticks in a shoebox".

I've heard those on the radio as well - the ones featuring big name celebs saying how they'll be watching.

Well if it's good enough for Roy Walker and Simon Bates...
