Hmm, maybe I should withdraw my anger at ITV back in December for not showing the Comedy Awards on TV after all.

*still selfish of Grade not to let another broadcaster show it though!

But the damage was done at the 2005 ceremony and I think they are investigating 2006 as well.

I think ITV may have been right to take it off the air, well if 2006 is down the pan as well I think there just didn't want any more problems with public voting!

lol Graham Norton on I'd Do Anything just now...

"Please don't call until the end of the show. Your vote will not be registered, but you still may be charged and we'll never hear the end of it..."

We should probably all change our answerphone messages too to warn callers "we may not be in, but you're call will still be charged".

Obviously some things needed to be clarified, but the disclaimers now are ridiculously lengthy and so wordy, viewers would miss the key points of them anyhow. Cost of calls and when lines close are all that's required really - and a couple of lines clearly announcing that is far better than having it hidden in eight lines of unreadable mumbo-jumbo.

They're not bothered if you get the message or not - they just need to cover their backs.

ITV have started to state on their competitions that instead of 'Mobile call costs will vary', they now say 'Mobile costs will be considerably higher', the more they change and add to these the lower the intelligence of the callers become.

This morning have even started to add a long disclaimer to phoning 0870 333 0550, a number that for years they have just told you to ring up about certain topics.

It does not matter hear in Scotland as half the competitions are already closed!
as Stv records and shown them else where in the days or weeks, to help fit in the 5.30pm show.

i dare say someone else will complain about that fact Scotland has no chance of winner those awful phone ins

Have you heard Radio 1 this week (or presumably other BBC Radio stations). The DJ now needs to read out that the competition was run in accordance with the BBC's guidelines for competitions blah blah...

That's why this "kitemark" idea should have been implemented - just to set up a clear set of basic guidelines which people are aware of by the presence of the kitemark - rather than loads of waffle. And are mobile costs really "considerably more" - I've never found them to be more than around 10p on top of the stated charge.

I have now noticed that the 'Considerably more' phrase has been used on other channels too. Whether this is one of the things implemented I'm not sure.

How would the kitemark work for radio?
Unless they did the calls cost, lines close and this competition follows the UK phone competition rules, or maybe something more concise.

One other thing that is starting to annoy me is that ITV are now using free web entry on certain programmes, yet because of this the competition lines close at some point, and the web entries 4 days after, leaving the winner to be announced online.

Surely it would be better to conclude a competition before the end of the programme, or announce it on the following programme, rather than 4 days later.

Yeah, I'm far more suspicious of winners being announced later or online, somewhere where you're not necessarily going to check up on them, rather than on-screen.

I don't get why web entry should close 4 days later too - ridiculous.
