Oh yeah, definately more about scaring OFCOM and politicians than anything else into allowing them to drop as many responsibilities as possible.

ITV boss Airey goes back to Five
Quote:

ITV's programming boss Dawn Airey is leaving the broadcaster to take charge of rival Five. Ms Airey, who joined ITV less than a year ago, launched Five in 1997 as its director of programmes, becoming its chief executive in 2000.

In 2003 she began a three-year spell in charge of Sky's TV channels.

As ITV's managing director of global content, she took charge of producing and distributing programmes such as Coronation Street.

She is now joining Five's parent company, RTL Group, in a senior role which will include her chairing the channel.

The Media Guardian website said she would also be becoming Five's chief executive. RTL declined to comment, adding it would release a statement on Wednesday.

In her original spell in charge of Five, Ms Airey was famous for filling the channel's schedule with films, live sport, and racy late-night shows.

But in recent years, Five has become closely associated with US programmes such as the CSI series, Hugh Laurie drama House and dark comedy Californication.

ITV said Lee Bartlett, currently chief operating officer of its global content division, would fill Ms Airey's role for the time being.

"We have assembled a strong team to lead our global content business and they will now report to Lee," executive chairman Michael Grade said.

Wednesday 21st May will be the Champions League Final live on ITV1, which should pull in huge figures.

I wonder what they'll do to Emmerdale/Corrie that week. I imagine Emmerdale will get an hour episode on Thursday as well as the usual Tuesday, with Corrie taking a Sunday edition. Given ITV's disrespect of The Bill, I imagine it will lose an episode as usual. (having said that, I'd prefer the others to lose an episode really)

But this brings up a point - what should ITV do when the football is more regularly on Wednesday nights? Corrie, The Bill and potentially Emmerdale might need to be relocated permanently otherwise it'll be changing a lot.

The Bill has a three part story starting tommorow which will be played out over 3 Thursdays so it is losing the Wednesday episode 3 weeks running. Personally I would find one ep a week of The Bill easier to keep up with.

I expect Emmerdale will just go out at 7pm with the football at 7.30pm as on Tuesdays. Corrie could move their episodes forward and have 1 on Sunday during football weeks seen as the Sunday Corrie seems to be making a temporary comeback!

Part of me is thinking that with it being an all English final that ITV will want to milk that and have the build up from 7pm to get the interviews, and special features before the match, which would make a lot of sense, it's bound to be one of the biggest Champions League finals for this country and ITV have ever seen.

Yeah, they usually have a 7pm start for the final, regardless of English team involvement really.

I wonder if ITV1 will show the UEFA Cup Final if Rangers make it considering they've been hidden away on ITV4.

I agree. And I actually think the multi-part format works better than restricting stories to one episode so it should be enjoyable.

Ah right, I didnt think of that. I expect they will just do a 1 hour of Emmerdale on the Thursday then instead.

I agree, and if they have good cliffhangers at the end of each episode it will bring the viewers back the following week.

I think ITV have the rights to the UEFA Cup Final anyway, and considering Rangers have made it and that the Final will be played at Manchester City's ground, there's a very good chance it'll be on ITV1.

On an Anglia ITV note, some sad news, Michael Speake former continuity announcer has died...

I am presuming here............

Mon-Fri

1900 Emmerdale
1930 Coronation Street (mon, thur, fri)
1930 Emmerdale (tue)
1930 Regional Programmes (wed)
2000 Mon: The Bill
2000 Tue: Coronation Street
2000 Wed: Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
2000 Thur: Tonight
2000 Fri: The Bill

Keeping in line of ITV wanting to keep the same numbers of hours/minutes for Emmerdale and Coronation Street and, possibly, The Bill (with Bank Holiday episodes being dropped!)

Well The Bill tends to have two-part storylines over the two episodes a week, so it is like that already in a sense.
