ITV have deliberately dropped Episode 2 of PD (basically they're showing 8 episodes out of 9) just because they want to fit their schedule and because that episode has no serial elements in it.
Typical email:
This is the first time I've heard a TV network do this before, couldn't they at least drop some repeat of Katie and Peter and show the second episode in that slot?

Thank you for your recent email regarding PUSHING DAISIES.
ITV only had an 8 week slot available and it was decided that this was the best episode to drop as there are no serial elements within it. It may be shown at a later date. There are plans to release a DVD on the 23rd June 2008.

How stupid. Perhaps it might be done in a repeat run, or if for some reason an episode ended up being dropped from the schedule, but I can't believe that ITV couldn't find an hour long slot in the ninth week, or for a double episode one week, to air it.
And even if it has no serial element in it, surely at this early stage it's still developing the characters.

Its absolutely ridiculous. ITV have treated imported programmes badly in the past but I expected better for PD as its a peak time show and is likely to get/has got good ratings.
How will they manage if its recommisioned for a 22 week run? Only show half the episodes as its not convenient to show them all
And what exactly will they show the week after the final episode thats so important anyway?

That would explain why there were two 'Next Time on Pushing Daisies' sequences at the end. ITV obviously edited the episode 2 one onto the end. I thought I was going mad when it happened twice!

I'm sure I read somewhere that ITV had got the rights again, but usually channels don't start airing programmes until January.
If this is true, and this series does prove to be a success for them, and they do end up with a 22 week series on their hands, what do you expect that they'll do with it? They can't air it on Saturday nights for 22 weeks, unless they don't air it until 10, there's always Friday night, or a random night in the week.
Going back to ratings, teletext is reporting that Britain's Got Talent hit over 10m viewers, whilst Pushing Daises didn't do well with nearly 6m at 9pm on a Saturday night, compared to recently in my opinion it did very well.
And if the Doctor Who and Mr & Mrs figures are true, doesn't this mean that 14.7m people were watching either ITV1 or BBC1?

I guess ITV1 wont show season 2 until next year though?

Yes I caught that, more than a hint of schadenfreude by the BBC there. Pointing out that the BBC will be the only dedicated tv news service for the East Midlands, should Michael Grade's plans get the go ahead-- hint, hint.
A good trip down memory lane all the same (and Lenton Lane!)

An interesting report about Central and Lenton Lane on Inside Out East Midlands this evening, complete with a few nostalgic ident clips, the intros for programmes like Bullseye and Catchphrase, and a tour of the studios.
