I thought it was to try and avoid a Granada takeover. When Granada took over, the LWTP practice ceased.

Don't think so, the LWTP period was around 1995-96, when they were already owned by Granada, because they'd already started simulcasting the regional stuff like Tarby Late on Granada and LWT in 1995. That Carlton UK logo I was mentioning is not quite that one up there, it would be alongside the final producer/director credit on the show.

Is there a reason why LWT had two endcaps back in the day - LWTP and "An LWT Production..."? Surely LWT Productions and An LWT Production meant the same thing.

LWTP was a rebranding of their programme-making department, seemingly separate to the company as a whole,

I think it was connected to the way the company was restructured in the lead up to the franchise bid, with productions and studios being spun off into separate units. I assume that Productions just wanted to market themselves better.

The dual slides I assume was because it required an official ITV one too

Yes, LWT Productions Ltd and The London Studios Ltd were created at a time when LWT was thought by many to be the major player in ITV. (Let's not forget that Thames and Granada were widely tipped to have lost their franchise in the auction). Alas LWT's low franchise bid made them vunerable rather than powerful and there was that (very) hostile takeover by Granada and the rest is history.

I really feel this thread has gone off topic recently, could the endcap chat not go in another thread.

There are several pages worth of off topic conversation here, probably because the generic ITV thread was archived and people didn't know where else to go. It'd be a shame if this becomes one of those rebrand threads that morphs into a generic minutia thread.

again with the "ITV Discussion Thread" being locked...

This happened last time and kick up a fuss to state it was nothing to do with the last reband: anyways most of the talk here is about Endcaps etc say does not really needs to be in any ITV Discussion Thread Wink

I'll create on hopeful if something good appears Razz

Im sure LWT just before the franchise bid, make it clear it was going to expand to production operations for other channels etc. so there make LWT productions for stuff to be used out side ITV or something like that...

Why have ITV decided to remove the original copyright details, why couldn't they just have, for example:

A LWT Production for ITV slide

Followed by:

An ITV Studios Presentation
(C) ITV Studios 2013 slide

I do dislike the erasing of the old ITV regions as production companies on these old programmes. I notice however on the DVD releases the old companies production slides still exist, and I'm not just on about Network DVD releases, Jeeves & Wooster still has the old A Granada Production For ITV slides.

I assume the rules for the DVD releases are different to broadcast copies these days?

Tiger Aspect have replaced the old Tiger Television/Thames endcap on the Mr Bean DVDs (or at least, the copies I own) with an updated Tiger Aspect endcap, but still crediting Tiger Television and the original year at the bottom.

Ah, now you've said that it's triggered a vague memory that it was something to do with LWT starting to produce programmes midweek. Traditionally of course LWT would only produce programmes to be aired at the weekend, but that would change due to the influx of publisher broadcasters in 93.

Copy edit is needing done..

Quote:
The plan was halted in early 1988, as LWT chairman Christopher Bland, along with Greg Dyke, started to streamline operations; over four years, more than 690 people were made redundant, whole layers of management were spaced and working practices overhauled. But with the plan still a possibility, Dyke was able to offer lavish redundancy payments, ultimately getting the changes through. Greg Dyke explains: "To completely restructure your business for less than a year's profits is a good deal. I have no problem with that". Another change was to make production operations a profit centre, with studios to rent - and with various uses from Jonathan Ross shows to sales conferences[8][9]. These operations continue to earn millions a year for ITV.

If I can the cutting with the details I will post it,

Yeah I noticed the first ever episode has had the standard credits added to the beginning & end, which they never had before, the first episode was also originally just credited to Thames Television originally (although no production cap on the old Thames Video).

From what I know The Sweeney, The Bill, Chancer, Press Gang, London's Burning, Jeeves & Wooster, The Prisoner and Boon all retain original introduction/production caps (where applicable), not sure if Adventures Of Robin Hood still retain the HTV production caps however.
