I see from the Countdown endcap that at least Yorkshire TV still exists for copyright purposes

Countdown is listed as (C) Yorkshire TV Ltd.

Do all of the other formerly independent companies still exist as legal entities as well? I'd have thought that they had all been subsumed into ITV plc - with the exception of Granada Productions.

Yes, they all exist. They are the licence holders.

What does everyone think the likelihood is of anyone seriously putting in a bid for one of the ITV plc franchises when they come up for renewal. Surely any successful rival bidder would immediately be bought out by ITV plc and absorbed Confused

Apologies - I'm really not as thick as my question made out - I should have thought through the point before posting here. Of course they must still exist for the quoted reason.

We all have our offdays and today's been one of mine.

Unfortunately the way the 1990 Broadcasting Act was set up in terms of the new ITV regional stations that started it's new contracts from 1993, they are allowed to renew their licence for a 5 year period as long as it's done within 18-24 months before the end of that franchise period. They've already done that once. The chances of it happening again are probably zero depending on when the new legisation comes in as we know the ITV of today is totally different to the ITV of even five years ago.

Donald Emslie Chief Executive of SMG Television appeared as one of Scotlands top One Hundred.(what ever that is supposed to mean) The article was about his progress from joining Scottish Television in 1985 to present day and he said that it's just a matter of time before a takeover and he will look forward to the managing the challenges that are ahead for SMG.

Yeah, it's on TV Ark somewhere featuring the song Just the Way You Are. It ended with the regional ITV idents going into a big ITV logo. Can't see that now. All I can see is the money goin into the ITV cashpot Smile

That's news to me. I know that SMG were reported to be eyeing up the Borders area with a view to replacing Border there, but that's all I know so far.
