Foolish ITV Exec 1: Oooh, that Doctors programme on BBC1 seems to be doing well... let's copy it and pop in on in the afternoons.

Foolish ITV Exec 2: But what shall we base it on?

Foolish ITV Exec 1: We'll just re-spin a much loved ITV drama, they won't notice the difference.

Accurate! <nods sagely>

So, yet another soap? I'm not convinced this is the right way to go...

To be honest as much as I've slated the afternoon reruns of the likes of Poirot etc. - they'd probably be better off just re-running The Royal itself in the afternoon.

How can they do that? Couldn't the rights to Dallas would've expired by now? (Wasn't it on BBC One?)

wasn't Dangermouse on ITV but now on BBC?

there no reason why it couldn't get shown on ITV

Assuming it goes out 5 days a week it'll only last just over a month anyway.

Personally I'd put it on at 3 o'clock perhaps, and maybe introduce an ITV Music / CDUK brand for the 5 o'clock hour for something different.

DangerMouse wasn't an ITV production as such, it was made by Cosgrove Hall Films which was then part of Thames Television (as in ITV London Weekday...). The programme therefore ended up on the ITV Network. Since then Thames has lost its franchise, changed ownership a few times and now no longer exists on its own, rather as part of talkbackThames, now owned by Fremantle. Therefore Dangermouse is available to any UK broadcaster who wants it, therefore its apparently now on BBC Two somewhere.

Well if its 50 episodes it will last for 10 weeks if its on 5 days a week. Not very many episodes to order - didnt they order a years worth of Crossroads back in 2000/2001?

"The Royal Today" - now I am hoping that's only the working title. Confused

Obviously Emmerdale six days a week isn't enough soap for ITV viewers Rolling Eyes

They ordered a years worth in 2003 too... but still axed it early. Although to be fair Crossroads didn't fail, its ratings were as good as they were going to be, its a case of this new soap will need time to build a fan base - something Night and Day and the 'new' Crossroads wasn't given.
