I've been watching Surgical Spirit again on ITV3 - it ran from 1989 to 1995 yet they're still showing the first series.
That was something I never really found very funny when it was on first time round, but it's no reason why it can't be shown in full, as Goodnight Sweetheart, Never The Twain and most of the daytime comedies have been shown in full.
On a slightly related note, another Humphrey Barclay comedy, Desmonds (Series 6) is now available to watch on 4oD via NTL Telewest, granted not an ITV programme, but certainately one of the most underrated Channel 4 comedies I think.

it was the most successful home-grown sitcom screened by C4!

It was, but there have been little or no repeat showings since it was on Carlton Select and Paramount Comedy in the late 1990's, and there is no DVD or VHS release either, compared to Channel 4's other big 1990's hit; Father Ted which benefits from many repeat showings and DVD's, which was just as funny.

Agreed, it was shown once back in 2001 but at 3 in the morning!!!!!! I managed to tape six episodes but the tape got destroyed by a knackered VHS Player
I long for the day they release this series on DVD, if anybody from Channel 4 reads these forums ( I take Barkley Bear no longer exists as I haven't seen a new programme by them since Desmond's) please suggest that they release this series on DVD.
If Love Thy Neighbour (Racist nonsense) or dinnerladies (never found this funny) can get a DVD release then surely one of Channel 4's most popular comedies should.
Same goes for Boon (although that's more a comedy drama than sitcom) surely long overdue for a DVD release
