Following Coronation Street on Wednesday, Liz McDonald was watching The Real Housewives of Cheshire (which airs on ITVBe) during the second half of the programme and when it ended, the announcer said "...were they *really* watching another channel?!" I thought it was nice attention to detail.

Bet they got that idea from EastEnders Live.

Agree on the continuity announcers. Most of them are actually shockingly bad with little personality or warmth. I think Steph Bower is the one exception.

Thank TV Forum, thought it was just me! Tonight's announcer on ITV has been shocking. A disgrace, especially considering the channel is celebrating it's 60th Birthday. A shock to see the Up series return tonight...seems a bit BBC2 compared to common ITV these days!

The ITV that shows the beautifully crafted and moving Long Lost Family and is showing documentary programming at 9pm every night this week?

By the way 56 Up is a repeat from 3 years ago.

I know, I've just realised reading another certain forum...oops. Still seems strange to me watching this on ITV these days...

Fair play to ITV but surely some Drama is the priority for ITV at 9pm (though have seen plenty of Drama promos tonight to be fair). Not that I don't think Documentary's should be on the channel in Prime Time...

P.S - The announcers are awful.

Stop trying to wriggle out of your original point that '56 Up' wasn't a very ITV programme!

The announcers might be awful, but your comment about the 60th anniversary was a bit silly when you think about it. It's not like the criteria for what they're after is suddenly going to change on the basis it's an anniversary year. Obviously someone rates them and what they're doing that ain't going change to you or barcode get a job at ITV towers.

ITV needs more programmes like thus plus a new South banks show.

I'm sure ITV could double their factual commissions over night and still get comments like this.

Er...to me these days it's not! I'm surprised it wasn't sold to the BBC years ago. That's not to say ITV isn't better than a decade ago though.

I admit I might be being a bit daft about the 60th Anniversary comment though... Embarassed Embarassed

The BBC did one of the programmes around the turn of the millennium I believe but every other series has been back on ITV.

Although I'm pretty are she said ITV2 rather than ITVBe.

The announcer or Liz? If it was Liz it was a good representation as what would happen in real life.

Am I the only person here who doesn't particularly notice continuity announcers. Yes, C4 have a couple who are a bit more fun than most, as do E4, while the really bad ones will stand out, but on the whole I see no issue with the folk at ITV. The only time CAs really annoy me is when they basically reveal the whole plot in the intro to a show or speak every 15 seconds during a breakdown!

Maybe you should listen carefully to the content, construction and delivery of some links from some ITV announcers and then you would realise what we are talking about.
