These new dogs are a bloody joke!! They look a mess! Just because Sky Onc can get away with having a coloured dog, does not mean ITV2 should copy them! I hate the green used by ITV2!

I bet ITV1 Digital gets a Yellow dog before the year is out!!!! Any money!!

Charles Allen is to blame, he made ITV the mess that it is today, then he bugged off laughing all the way to the bank!!

I'm wondering if that's why my TV isn't currently receiving any ITV channels. Perhaps it is voting with its feet?

The arrogance and ignorance of these marketing men beggars belief. Why can't they just accept people do NOT want DOGs of any description and give the viewers what they want?

Who are 'people' though Simon? The simple fact is that most people do not give a flying f*ck about most of the things we discuss on here.

That doesn't mean that our pursuit or cause is pointless or our discussion irrelevant, and I would always argue that if they are intent on pleasing anyone, then they may as well please the group that cares rather than make no different to the group that doesn't, but 'those marketing men' are only annoying a small group of people who care about TV beyond the programmes.

I love discussing pres, I do hate most of what's used now, I do enjoy intellectual conversation about ITV's demise and I do disagree with the way the local stations have been removed and ITV plc operates under a regulator which refuses to regulate - and on many issues my opinions completely concur with yours, but sometimes YOU are more than a bit arrogant with your assertions that everyone in the country of sound mind is behind you.

I was told when I phoned ITV that if you had Freeview you would have to rescan your box several times, as i lost ITV2 and ITV3 last night. It took about 3 rescans! Rolling Eyes

Why move ITV3 and 4 before 2? It makes no sense.

There is an element of logic to the move. Just an element.

ITV2 is very popular, so theory says the punters will follow it to a higher numbered channel.

ITV3 and 4 are less popular, so move them to lower numbers to, hopefully, pick up some nice, new punters.

Of course, a large amount of the viewing public won't notice or pay any attention to the announcments. So, when they tune in next week to watch their favourite programme on Channel 6 and its not there they'll just give up on that programme thinking its been canned and get angry with ITV and switch to another channel. Half-brained ideas like this are only going to turn people off freeview.

The logos featured on the trailers still use the old transparent DOGs.
The +1 DOGs haven't been updated either, at least not on ITV2+1. So you now have a big green ITV2 DOG and a minuscule transparent "+1" bit.

ITV2 has probably got the most distracting one, ITV3 and ITV4 aren't actually too bad (compared to ITV2 anyway). CITV Channel DOG hasn't changed but it's still far too big and far too deep in the safe area.

I don't think they'd look too bad coloured if they were transparent in some form, as they are they're a bright block of colour, its interesting, I wonder why they've done it, was there anything wrong with the way it was?

As for CITV, I agree the dog is far too big, though it does seem to get bigger and more further in for these special dogs, its not nice though. The original - the one still used on ITV1 (or was) was better.

Surely a full coloured version of the logo would just still be black and white, but with a white C, surely the best way to do it would be to flip around the colours so that the C is black so that the C can be seen when watching a programme (such as pocoyo or art attack) with a whole white background.

Jesus Simon, don't you ever tire of being so absolute in your contempt?

I have to seek channels I like such as paramount and living, but I will because I enjoy them. I make appointments to view. Conversely I happen across much of the content on the first 5 or 6 channels because of where they are.

Admittedly such channel-flicking in my case is usually limited to between the numbers 1 and 5. But I still don't see why the position of other channels makes them any less accessible to casual channel flickers.

Start from channel 1.

Distance to channel 6 (old ITV2) if randomly "channel-flicking": 5 clicks
Distance to channel 28 (new ITV2) if randomly "channel-flicking": 25 clicks (no 25 or 27)

The chances of someone happening upon a programme on ITV2 (as opposed to planning/looking for it) has got to be far lower. Hell, remember how ITV4, E4+1, Quiz Call & ITV Play (as they were then - only one still remains in that group in that form now, of course) took the opportunity to jump down two numbers when FiveUS & FiveLife replaced a couple of TopUpTV things? That was because "channel flickers" are significantly likely to stop when they hit the shopping channels or find something before that point, reducing the number of eyeball impressions they get.

For the same reasons that you and I just flick around the low numbers.

I haven't flicked past a shopping channel since they were all shuffled into oblivion - and that might not seem so unusual until you consider I auditioned to present one of them a month or so ago.

Could ITV use their "Channel 6" slot to create a hub for ITV channel's on Freeview, a bit like French broadband TV?

They could move ITV2 to ITV2+1 and then create a multiscreen or menu on channel 6 showing what is on all ITV channels at that moment in time and links to them. Not only would it have a prime channel slot but considering the wide range of programming available many people may find something they want to watch on a channel they would otherwise not look at, before they see whats on the BBC's or 4's digital channels.

I suppose a drop-down menu like some commercial radio stations have is the more likely, and uglier, option.

Can we be so sure that that is the case though? If people are not saying anything about the use of DOGs or ECPs is it because they have realised, as we have, that complaining achieves little and that broadcasters and marketing men will do exactly what THEY want? The Points Of View message board is swamped with many complaints about these two issues at any one time, and you can hardly say that is a niche message board like TV Forum is.

I stand by my original assertion that dropping DOGs WOULD be the best way to serve all viewers; how many times do you hear complaints about the ABSENCE of a channel logo or a credit squeeze? I rest my case.

I don't think that's the case at all. Just because there hasn't been the level of discussion of this particular issue on THIS forum, doesn't mean to say it hasn't been noticed more, and condemned more, elsewhere.

I am not, and have never been, as conceited as to think everyone should agree with me on every single point. If we all thought like that, what would be the point of this or any forum? I will concede, however, that I am passionate and persistent with regard to certain issues where many others wouldn't perhaps wouldn't be.
