. . . the Sun ... it's core readership - right wing working class morons who want "those people" out of the UK . . .

And as for the Daily Mirror's core readership - lily livered left wing liberals that want to scrap the Pound for the Euro.

I don't mind admitting I read The Sun, (Britain's most popular newspaper) despite the fact that it's published by a
multi-national company owned by a greedy, loathsome, Antipodean media tycoon who shall remain nameless!

The Sun nowadays isn't even half as right-wing as it once was during the years when Thatcher was still the PM.
If anything, the one tabloid paper that's more vociferously right-wing and self-righteous than The Sun has ever
been, is the Daily Mail. Now, there's a paper that does want "those people" (as you put it) out of Britain.

As for the leader of the British Nazi Party, the less said about that smug faced, racist cnut, the better . . . !

The Murdoch titles have been quite hostile towards this news, unsurprisingly. The Sunday Times article must have mentioned the fact that NTL was an American company about 20 times!

I wouldn't rule RTL out of the race to merge with ITV.

News International has always been anti- BBC & ITV however if they are citing the problem is that ITV will be owned by an American corporation arn't they scoring an own goal? Sky tends to get around much of the regulation via a Luxembourg company. When Murdoch wanted to buy Fox he had to become an American citizen. News International was also due to relist in the NYSE.
One of the reasons that ITV is in its present state is that Ofcom has allowed it to. Ofcom isn't interested in standards but into revenue generating for the treasury.

Hardly.

The traditional left of the UK has been Euro-hostile for a damn sight longer than these right-wing fly-by-nights!

Who was it again who fought for the referendum in 75? Which party officially supported pulling out of Europe in 83? Not the Tories that's for sure.

And as the core Mirror readership is made up of true lefties, your argument rings rather hollow.

The Left had, and has it right. If you want out, best out early. Now we're woven into the fabric, best to change it from within. Contrast that with the Tories who go in with both feet, then whinge from the sidelines -- not doing a damn thing to get the UK out once in power. Hypocrites of the highest order.

BSkyB has acquired a 17.9% stake in ITV for £940m, making it the broadcaster's biggest shareholder.

In a surprise move, BSkyB has bought 696m shares at 135p a share, in a £940m move that looks like a ploy to block any ITV merger with NTL.

BSkyB said it had no intention of taking its ITV stake over 19.9% or launching a full takeover bid.
