As Andrew rightly pointed out earlier, this most likely won't be a change of channel names - more the name of the company so that the city's outlook on it isn't so bleak. How they think they're going to pull that off is anybody's guess
CDjunkie - please re-read my second paragrpah!
Yes, you're the only one who seemed to grasp the concept ITV won't be changing their channel names...

So it will be like the post office, rename there actually business name, not it’s subsidy. there want to change the ITV plc name. There could call it UK3 PLC or even Chav plc?
I personally don't know why they ever called it ITV PLC in the first place, why didn't they just use Granada? It's a strong brand name, the only true Regional ITV name still being used on a regular basis, plus foremost the merger was more of a Granada takeover if anything, so I wouldn't see anything wrong.
ITV's names are all over the show, they have ITV Productions, Granada Productions for non-ITV Programmes, Granada International, Granada Ventures, Carlton Screen Advertising, why not standardise it, or at least just have one name for everything..
Why don't they just rename ITVplc to Granada plc - as it should be. As it was Granada, in the end, that took over Carlton!
That is most likely exactly what will happen. The company in its first annual report did not report as if it were a newly established company, but rather as a continuation of Granada plc (and its liniage).
I could think of a number of companies that merged, started by including both companies names in the new name, but reverted to the bigger company's name then. Vodafone Airtouch reverted to Vodafone after about six months. MCI Worldcom became Worldcom (and then MCI again, but that's another story). There are others...
For a new name: i Media? Because its not just TV...
The Granada name is not just television......
it started off as a chain of theatres, then cinema's and then television as well as Granada rentals and theme parks such as Camelot, Granada Studios Tour (along with the V&A Hotel which is now part of the Marriott chain!) and The Great American Adventure Theme Park in Derbyshire

It will take more then a company rename to save ITV1, it's a goner!
OK, so ITV's CHANNELS aren't going to rename but would be such a bad thing if they did? "ITV" has got a muddy name at the moment, and ITV as a brand is still p!ssweak anyway as regional names were king up to the late 90s.
They'd need to take a very different approach to things though, and endless airings of Coronation Street and Emmerdale sadly will not be the answer to this problem.
I would also personally look consolidating the current four channels into two, I think this would start to remove the highly diluted output. ITV Play could probably continue though, at the end of the day it makes a lot of money for the company.
But in all seriousnss, there needs to be a "no sacred cows" approach to this company now. I'm not saying axe it but that even needs to include Corrie, maybe seriously chopping down the amount of episodes of that and Emmerdale aired per week.
ITV1 also needs to sort itself out with a decent daytime show. It's not had much luck since losing Home & Away. They then had a big chance to recover that loss with Crossroads and they blew it twice - once by fannying about with recommisioning and twice with the Yvon Grace revamp. They then blew it a third time with their awful, awful treatment of Night & Day.
I actually believe that the problems with Crossroads and Night & Day have a bit to answer for with regards to these current issues.
I'm not saying they're totally responsible but they were the first in a line of dominoes to get pushed over, if you follow.
