I'm some respects knowing their historical track record of closing channels at very short notice (e.g. Granada Plus) I'm half surprised ITV haven't decided to axe ITV2 and replace it with ITV Be. I can't help wondering how ITV can in the long term sustain so many channels.

It's repositioning itv2 as their younger entertainment channel. Moving female scewed imports, towie and the like to itvBe means that they can increase the commissioning of similar shows to feed that target demographic better whilst increasing the amount of general entertainment and comedy with the space that will be freed up from such towie programmes.

As long as there's a demographic that they can appeal to and that they bring in the ratings I don't see itv having an issue. This to me makes more sense than itv3 & encore.

No HD version then? Surely that should have appeared on Sky as well as a placeholder?

If an HD version exists, surely it will occupy the same position (Ch 179) on HD boxes, as the SD version does on SD boxes. Same situation as Sky 1 on 106 ?

There's still an SD version on the EPG of those with HD, and the HD version is listed on the EPG of those without also.

No other ITV Be is listed on the EPG, not even a +1.

ITV Encore launched with both an HD and +1 version.

Well, ITV Encore was a joint venture with Sky, is exclusive to Sky, and took EPG slots from Sky channels. Sky clearly aren't offering the same for ITV Be so they'll have to wait for a HD and +1 slot. Has an ITV channel fallen off the EPG to make way?

I don't think ITV Encore is a joint venture, it's just Sky exclusive at the moment.

There isn't a queue for HD channels. New EPG slots can be purchased, it's only the SD channels which have to be bought from a previous provider (or Sky if they have lapsed).

I'm not sure who had EPG 179 before, I suspect it was one of the Showcase/Info TV +1/+2s that they regularly snap up as placeholders.

ITV Encore was launched as part of a partnership:
Quote:
The channel is ITV's first new channel launch in eight years, and forms part of a wider four year partnership with Sky - ITV's largest ever with a platform operator.[1]

The same article suggests ITV Be has come at the expense of ITV Encore +1

Quote:
A timeshift service launched on Sky channel 193 on the same day as ITV Encore. The channel broadcast viewers' favourite ITV dramas one hour later like other +1 timeshifts. As of 1 October 2014, this channel was removed from Sky and was replaced with a placeholder for ITVBe on channel 179.

Those changes in full...
ITV Be replaced ITV2 +1 on 179
ITV2 +1 replaced ITV3 +1 on 180
ITV3 +1 replaced ITV Encore +1 on 193.

When it launched, ITV Encore replaced one of Sky's channels' EPG slots, rather than one of their own or a "placeholder":
It has now appeared on the Sky EPG:

123 - ITV Encore HD
193 - ITV Encore +1
298 - ITV Encore

Sky Living +1 has been moved up once slot to 122, with SkyLivingIt being relegated to 222, next to its +1 channel on 223. It replaced Sky Arts 2 (SD), which can now be found on 297.

(ITV Encore moved from 298 to 263 on 19 August)

And there we have it, ITV has their very own version of 'Oxygen' 'VH1 USA' & Bravo (USA) into one channel. Let the 'reality' see the cameras....
