ITV are to axe People's Court. The show has lost half it's audience, last week only 600,000 tuned in.The show ends it's six week run later this month and ITV have no plans to bring it back .Carol Smillie's agent has said " The contract was only for six weeks,Carol has fufilled her contract ".
The premise of the show is a success in most of the other global markets it plays in. I still watch Judge Judy (a variation of it) at teatime on ITV2.
The problem with STV's version is (as Marksi pointed out) the Plaintiff and Defendant are allowed to talk (and even shout) over the top of each other. The two judges are awful. Neither asks establishing questions and the female Judge is far more intersted in hearing her own voice.
And why open the show up to viewer voting? Rather makes a mockery of having a Judge on the bench.
Shame its going if for no other reason than it put Studio A into use.
I'm not a fan of the show and i don't like Carol, she is very shallow.
It also said in the paper that a member of staff was suspended last month after an alleged attack on a girl in an argument over a broken autocue machine.
It wasnt exaclty good as Judge Judy, but was quite good. Better than some on the dravel on daytime tv, such as Everything must go, bootsale challeneg and solution street.
I didn't mind the show but wouldn't tune in particularly to watch it! If it was on I would watch it!
The male judge was much better than the female judge where he injected some much needed humour into proceedings.
I still cant understand how they make it live as they announce the audience vote and then talk to them about the result. Its not as if two different endings have been filmed as the exact percentages are talked about after the vote has ended!
But I agree with Andrew that it was commissioned for one series and ran for one series it HASNT been axed just not recommisioned. But i'm sure people on this forum will use that to maximum effect for another anti-ITV rant!

There can be no doubt it was intended to be a cornerstone of the daytime strand, and had it been a success the 'series' would have blended together in the same way This Morning etc do.
Quibbling semantics is rather pointless when it's clear the programme didn't deliver what was expected of it.
